Show 31 A National Department i of Health. Senator Kobert L. Owen of Oklahoma, on March 24th, in-troduccd in-troduccd in the Somite a bill providing for a Department of Puhlic Health. This oonversa-tion oonversa-tion of national lioaltli is a good move and the establishment of a department to carry on a war against the ravages of proven t-able t-able diseases, is a Godsend to the Nation. But remember the bill has only been introduced and may not be passed as the bill has not yet been voted up-on. up-on. If this bill should fail to become a law, the people will bo to blame. Everybody should take an interest in the bill and write letters to each of the State Senators and to the congress-; men requesting them to us"' their influence for the passage of this all important bill. Let us briefly discuss the morits of the bill. In the first place we will speak of the good that was done by our government in eradi-eating eradi-eating the terrible diseases that L existed in the Panama canal T zone. Yellow fever and mali- fl gnant Malaria caused the French government to give up the construction of the canal in despair. The canal was pur-chased pur-chased by our government and , the misquitos that convoyed ; yellow fever and malaria germs J' destroyed and now tho Panama canal zone is a delightful and I healthful place. ' Typhoid fever, tuberculosis, leprosy, pleague and other dis-cases dis-cases are preventable and if there was a proper observance of the sanitary conditions re- I specting these diseases, they could be stamped out and 6,- ! 000,000 lives saved in the Unit- ed States that are usually given ; over to the ravages of these preventable diseases. In our own state, wo have a disease known as Rocky Moun-tain Moun-tain Spotted Fever that is even mora fatal than typhoid fever. It is possible that this disease might bo stamped out if a proper investigation was made and the ;ause removed which allows the ticks to bocomn poisoned. Let us unite in asking our Legislators to vote for the pass- ogo of tho bill. We have a de- pnrtment of agriculture that looks after tho life and health of plants and animals why not j have a National Department of Health to aid in saving the lives of tho people of this great na- I tion?
