Show COOPER GIVEN FULL PARDON Slayer of Senator Carmack of Tennessee Tennes-see Finds Friend in Chief Executive and Will Not Serve Sentence. Nashvlllo, Tenn. Colonel Duncan R. Cooper, convicted of killing former Senator E. W. Carmack and sentenced to twenty years imprisonment, was granted a full pardon on Wednesday by Governor Patterson Just after the Tennessee supremo court had reaffirmed reaf-firmed his sentence. Robin, son of Colonel Cooper, convicted con-victed with his father, was remanded for a new trial by-tho supremo court. In. the younger man's case, tho court wa8 divided, Chief Justice Beard reading read-ing a dissenting opinion. Governor Patterson's pardon for Colonel Cooper declares "in my opinion opin-ion neither of tho defendants Is guilty nnd they have not had a fair and Impartial Im-partial trial, but were convicted contrary con-trary to. the law and evidence." |
