Show To Voters TO THE VOTEltS OF THE TOWN OP GA11LAND, UTAH. Ladies and Gentlemen: You are no doubt awaro that a primary pri-mary of the so called, citizens' party of this town was called for the purpose of nominating a president and four trustees to bo elected on Tuesday Nov. 2, 1909. It being likely, that there . would bo but ono ticket in tho iield, advantage wis taken of tho situation by men-who wero supposed to represent the cifi'enship of our town in general gene-ral and men, with the single exception of Jos. Jensen, whose I name was placed on the ticket t for policy, were uomjuated for ! office who are known to bo in favor of liconsed saloons. As to saloons they may bo good things for tho community, ut we are decidedly of tho opinion of the contrary. Seeing the conditions that confronted us, a number of in-ifluential in-ifluential citizens suggested to tho undersigned that steps bo taken to prevent tho election of tho "citizens' ticket" which to them and us and to all who cared to observe was clearly a saloon ticket. Another ticket was filed with tho town clerk under tho namo of. "Tho Peoples' Ticket." This j ticket was not drawn strictly according ac-cording to statute form aud was (ruled "illegal," and consequently conse-quently does not appear on tho official ballot. In tho Oct. 24tliwissuo of tho Garland Globe, the "Peoples' Ticket' ' was designated "illegal" not, we hope with any intention to do harm to our cause, but which has undoubtedly led many to think that votes cast for tho Peoples' Ticket, or mon whoso names appear thereon would bo useless, but wo wish to say that such is not tho case, votes cast for names that do not appear on the official ballot are just as valid and will go; just as far towards their election as though their names wore printed. All necessary to bo done is to scratch tho names in tho printed form and write in the opposite column tho names of your candidates. can-didates. c aro confident that each man whoso namo appears on tho Peoples Ticket will do all in his powor for the betterment of conditions con-ditions with tho ultimate object in view of closing saloons and eliminating their kindred evils. The Peoples' Ticket was ruled "illegal," but novortholoss tho winning ticket will appear on at least 70 por cent of tho ballots cast as follows : For President, J. G. Wheolon ; for Trustees, Joseph Jensen, T. H. Edwards, A. R. Caponor, T. E. Secrist. Tho proposition is now up to tho voters of Garland to say whether or not this city shall bo a clean, peaceful, happy community com-munity or whether saloons will be promitted to flourish with their ovor attendant sin, misery, sorrow and debauchery. Citizens bo loyal to yourselves and to your children. Forgot that with the abolishment of the saloon that all is not accomplished, accomplish-ed, but remember that when that is done wo have takon one long stop towards perfection and havo then placed ourselves in a position to advance. Saloons cannot run without boys. Have you a boy to spare? Gifciztrttffc |
