Show TORRENT SWEPT DOWNCANYON Cloudburst in Colorado Causes the Death of Two Members of a Picnic Party. Walls of Canyon Were Precipitous, "Making Escape From Flood More Difficult. Victims Gave Their Lives to Save Others. Boulder, Colo. As tho result of a cloudburst that deluged Two-Mile canyon, can-yon, north of Boulder, on Friday, Verno CarliBlo, aged 13, of Robinson, Ills.t and Arthur DIckerman, aged 25, of Greoley Colo., woro drowned. Mrs. Verglo Abbott, of Garden City, Kans., and Zora Carlisle, of Robinson, Ills., were Berlously Injured. Tho dead and injured woro members of a picnic party being entertained at a family reunion by Mrs. A. Gumaer of Boulder. When tho rain began to fall tho party sought shelter under a huge boulder. Presently tho roar of tho approaching torrent as It swept down tho canyon to a doptli of two feet, was heard. The picnickers mad 3 a wild Bcramblo for safety. Tho walls of tho canyon were precipitous, and it was with great difficulty that they found places of safety abovo tho crest of tho flood. Six woro able to gain shelter, but in aiding their companions com-panions Arthur DIckerman and Verno Carlisle forgot themselves until too lato and woro swept to their deaths. Mrs. Abbott and Miss Carlisle wero also caught by tho flood and sustained serious Injuries They were brought to the hospital hero. |
