Show ALTON commencement exercises and a closing day program for the alton public school were held on may 2 at in the afternoon a large audience assembled in the amusement hall where a program was waa rendered by the eighth grades as a fitting climax to the years work fred M fowler the entertainment was given in the form of a health booster festival the aba older students gave stories and poems which were both educational and interesting principal A H gibbons directed directed d two short dramatic numbers the primary teacher mrs athella athelia slier siler supervised that division of the program given by the younger students ants A health play entitled good habit land was replete with health suggestions gest ions for both young and old each of the twenty five children taking part wore bright colored cashes bashes bearno the health character represented poems dialogues and drills followed twelve small girls in dainty pink and blue costumes and carrying wreaths of flowers rendered a pretty dance which represented the corning coming of the first narcissus illy A mother goose party was staged in which eight rhymes were dramatize dra matiz ed ad by the children the closing feature was a health 1 ful goodnight good night tong song given by a group of small children who threw kinf j tary kisses to the audience I 1 at 4 a very inspirational commencement program was gl given van in the ward as leibly bly hall the first graduating students itu denta showed great enthusiasm I 1 ind and ability both in the preparation ind and presentation of their parts the address was doliver deliver d by supt bupt fowler the program i was raa as follows song america by the audience can you imagine by laura lauia roundy loasby an original poem by mona glover class will by wilma cox cox class clasa prophecies by devon roundy class history by pawn fawn heaton valedictory laura roundy class song graduates farewell address by principal A L gibbons at the tha close ot of this session mr awarded honor prizes to three it his students and presented the eighth grade students with hiela alasa lna altogether the day w wis acclaimed i grand success by all present we are sorry to report the death of henry leach ot of sterling okla lorna her death was caused by an accident in which sho she tell fell down uio the cellar while visiting ct at bald X knoll n 0 adl mine having accompanied her hu ib a n on a visit to his brother george leach who is seriously til ill it was thought she was recovering until sunday when she ehe had a sudden relapse at al though everything possible was done for her she passed away wednesday noon during her short stay with us she set a splendid example of cheerfulness patience and courage endearing herself to all who came in contact with her mrs afro leach was sixty tou years old and Is survived by her husband and tour four daught daughters eTs to lo whom we extend our sincerest sympathy la in their sad bereavement it being impossible to take her home tor for burial funeral services were held here thursday may 1 in the ward meeting house services were as follows song oh my father by choir prayer by herald heaton solo 1 I know that my redeemer lives artaur glover speakers were evin eoln roundy arthur glover and bishop roundy all of whom paid tribute to the sterling character of the deceased sentiments both beth roundy song the end of a perfect pay ruth lamb song Some sometime timo well by choir benediction by wm win M cox the grave was dedicated by junius heaton tho the floral offerings and singing were beautiful school closed friday may 2 principal A H gibbons and family are leaving tor for kanab where they intend to live this summer mr gibbons will be greatly missed on account of 0 his social activities in the ward however we hope he will return to us next so school hool year bishop roundy and lloyd heaton left monday tor for the sheep herd mrs emma robertson returned from kanab I 1 friday may 2 where she has been spending the winter she was accompanied by mr and mrs masterton and son they intend to i stay a few days with mrs robertson mrs afro Mast ertons mother mr and mrs robert bodily returned home saturday from st geor george ge where they have been spending the winter and working in the temple miss lillis palmer was a week end visitor at the home hom of her folks she returned to chanab kanab early sunday morang we had a re turn oi of winter in the form of a snow storm which has lasted tor for two days the roads are in a very bad condition owing to the mud and snow the graduating class of the eighth grade gave a dance friday tho the music was furnished by our friends from hatch ray palmer was home last week |
