Show From S. P. Effffertsen Jr. To the Editor of the Evening Dispatch. I have been greatly surprised at the importance attached to my change of political standing. A number of papers have commented upon it, and each paper, as time passed on, has enlarged on the untruthful insinuation. My surprise is intensified as I have not been a political worker and have neyer joined a republican society nor made a political speech. I reported myself, when asked, as standing on the republican side ; yet my blindness was not so great but what some democratic demo-cratic virtues could be seen. The Monday after the meeting of the democratic societies m Salt Lake city, -I was invited into the Enquirer En-quirer office where my reasons were I stated for the position taken. My conclusions were discuesed and understood under-stood and the Enquirer was at liberty to-publish them. So far, I have not been excited nor unduly interested in politics, and do not expect to be. I believe there is dishonesty brooding in the republican ranks of Utah and the scramble for office of-fice and prestige is unworthy of American Ameri-can citizens. If some of the paper reports re-ports of my change of standing were correct, I should loath and abhor myself my-self as much as I do some of the republican re-publican demagogues. I am not responsible for what the democrats or any one else mav have ! been quietly taluing about. " They have made no promises to me, and none are expected. Po. fh. ..m.i, echool year I could not accept the position posi-tion of county superintendent, as my time has been fully promised, all that is not now taken, to the public schools of Provo. The democratic party may count on my yote, proyided they put up good and efficient men for office, which I have no doubt they will do, but I am not and will not be a candidate for the office ot county superintendent or any other at the coming election. It is my opinion that the democrats of the territory are generally working for the best interests of Utah, and I trust their honesty and good judgment will be even more manifest in the coming election than ever before. Yours truly, S. P. Eggertsen, Jr. |
