Show DAY OF ACCIDENTS Two Runaways Occurred Yesterday Yes-terday at the Lake. ANOTHER SERIOUS ONE occurred this Morning' in Front of the Postoffice Resulting in the Fracture of a Limb for Mrs, Philander Brown One Occurred Yesterday at American Fork Killing a Mr. Diehl. A number of accidents are to be re-I re-I ported today. Other than thoBQ at Castilla reported elsewhere there was a runaway at American Fork yeBterday which resulted la the death of Wm. Diehl. Mr. Diehl had charge of an excursion party up American Fork canyon. On returning from the trip, at about 5 o'clock,he was in the act of carting baggage to the de pot when the team ran away. A Professor Pro-fessor Jones and two children were in the rig, b ut Mr. Diehl thought best to jump and did so, falling upon his head. Friends picked him up, but life was almost extinct, and he lived but an hour. The other occupants of the wagon were unhurt. Two runaways occurred yesterday afternoon at the Lake resort, west of ' Provo. Some one from the Bench had the very bad judgment to tie his horse to a harrow. The animal got frightened fright-ened and ran and succeeded in swinging swing-ing the harrow over his back, Then it became furious. There was an immense im-mense crowd of vehicles at the resort and for a time it appeared that a general gen-eral stampede would ensue. Luckily the horse was stopped before it hurt anybody or anything except itself. The horse belonging toJohnSaxey broke loose an ran. It dashed into the vehicle being driven by Douglas A. Swan's sons. Both buggies were broken. No other harm was done. this mokning shortly after 10 o'clock a conglomerate, complicate and very exciting f triple runaway occurred in front of the post-office post-office resulting in grsat damage to buggies and a serious bone fracture to Mrs Philander Brown of the Second ward. James (Jurrie, representing the Co op Wagon & Machine company of Salt Lake city had just come out of the f ostoffice and was untieing his horse, t jerked its head, broke . the snap and ran, capsizing a cart belonging to Kocco Rita and throwing a boy, who was sitting sit-ting in it, to the ground. He was not hurt, but the horse ran away and broke a strap or two and shook up the cart well. Currie'a horse continued up J street, turned and came back by the postoffice, dashing into the buggy which Mrs. Brown was in the act of entering. Mrs. Brown's horse ran and she was thrown forcibly to the ground. The two lower bones of her right leg,' above her ankle, were broken causing what ie called a Pott's fracture frac-ture and her right arm was badly bruised. She was carried into the Proyo Book Stationery store and Drs. Allen and Simmons were summoned sum-moned who dressed the fractuie and the wound, She was taken borne and is now, considering everything, quite comfortable. Currie's buggy was almost completely com-pletely shattered. The horse dashed it into the tie posts, breaking two of them. If it had not been for the posts, undoubtedly Mrs. Brown would nave been killed. |
