Show IMPUDENT ASSUMPTION. ! The Colossal Gall of the "Enquire i' Once More Exposed It Cannot Successfully Success-fully Play the "Church Oran" L odjte. 'Our neighbor has again begun the practice of publishing the home missionary mis-sionary appointments without author it y. We have ascertained the publication publica-tion of the list in its issue of last evening even-ing was unauthorized. The public may always depend on the Enquirer for authorizedsLnd. reliable church notices." The above is a reproduction (italics and all) a brilliant (?) squib published pub-lished last Saturday evening bv the Fnquirer among "a lot of dead local advertisements. The Dispatch giveB it space so it will reach as far as it is possible, because be-cause this journal knows the irdrmon j people will accept it as th3 best vi-l vi-l dence ever yet given of the desperate straits, that the Enquirer is in to regain its lost prestige. The idea of this paper presuming to publish a churc h notice seems to stir the Splatterblotch up terribly. It evidently thinks it has a monoply of this as it has of spite squirting. As soon as the item referred to was found a Dispatch representative presented pre-sented it to a numberj of prominent Mormon officials who without exception excep-tion pronounced all assertions that the Enquirier was in any sense a church organ as unqualifiedly false. There is but one church organ, and this is the Deseret News any others are not rec-ocnized. rec-ocnized. 1-n an interview, President David John paid: "It is the desire of ths stake residency to have both papers publish the missionary list, inas much as they wish it known as widely as possible by the readers of both papers without special favor to either. It is of considerable importance that the public as well as the missionaries themselves should know of their respective re-spective appointments." Mr. John further imformed the representative re-presentative that the stake clerk, J. W. liean has this matter in hand and will without doubt do what is right in the matter. Mr. Bean was next visited. He said that the whole matter cf publishing the list is without special authority. It has been customary with him, as a mater of habit only, to furnish the original copy to the Enquirer. As far as "church authority" is concerned he did not know of any reason why one paper should be considered any more than the other. Mr. Bean is of the opinion that the publication by the Enquirer of the paragraph quoted was entirely uncalled for and regretB that it was done. To all of this The Dispatcii of its own accord desires to explain that many of its subscribers in all parts of the county has asked that the list be published in this paper as of old. Because Be-cause of the exceeding big rush of business busi-ness crowded upon us at the close of the year it had been omitted. To please our patrons the list was published. pub-lished. Before it was done, Mr. Bean was visited by a reporter, to make sure that the list was accurate and that the date was right. |
