Show That Moab Killing-. With reference to the killing at Moab on January 9th, authentic particulars of which have not been published be- i fore, the Salt Lake Herald this morning morn-ing has an interview with Davenport, the slayer of Wood, who is now in the penitentiary awaiting the action of the grand jury. The deceased was nick-namea nick-namea "Box Car" Wod. "Davenport, who appears like ah honest, hard working man, stated that he had been a resident of Moab for only about three months and was en gaeed in cutting,' lumber when be got acquainted with Wood. On the day of the shooting and for several days previous previ-ous Wood had been very drunk and in capable of attending to his business. On the evening of Ja-uary 9th, Wood came into Bobby Robinson's saloon, in company with another man named Mcleod. Davenport was lying down on a bench in the saloon when Wood came up aud accused him (Davenport) of stealing $20 from McLeod. Davenport denied it and Wood became abusive and struck him while he was in a re cumbent position and swore that he would either have the money or blood. A son file ensued, when McLeod interfered inter-fered and Davenport left the saloon but returned, when another scuffle took place with the result that Davenport Daven-port again left and remained away for an hour or so and on returning learned that Wood bad been trying to borrow a gun for the purpose of shooting him. Wood was still in the salo n and again ma le an attack on Davenport and the latter fearing Wood would shoot him, pulled'out his reyolver and shot Wood through the heart and in the side, so that he died instantly." Wood was also a comparative stranger at Moab having been therefor only about two months. |
