Show The Reps, at Lake Shore. Lake Shows, July 29. Correspondence Correspond-ence Dispatch. As elsewhere we are deeply interested in politics. Last night" we had with ns three Republican speakers and Democracy was strengthened, strength-ened, the fallacies were soevident.Geo. Sutherland made an effort to show up the necessity of a strong central gov-j gov-j ernment. He sjKike of our prosperity, beautiful homes, etc., and said we owed it all to the Republican party, and called his party a party of education. Mr. Dudley hammered the table, pertained at" the top of bis voice, and finally got at the tariff question. He blamed' the Democrats and the high tariff for the destitute condition of the i j: people of Ireland. The Democrats had j ' done nothing for the country, while the Republicans had done everything. Mr. Page also had something to say about Ireland and wanted the llepub lican ticket elected. He wanted all the votes he could get, as there were chance- of them losing. Democracy here can listen to the class of Republican Repub-lican epeakers we had here last night .if ten and it will grow stronger. Even those who are not yet converted to either of the parties will sure go Democratic Dem-ocratic after listening to them, i Our grain crops here are splendid, better than we have had for years. However, the grasshoppers have done j considerable damage in some parts. I The lucerne seed crop here this sea- j son will he a failure, owinir to the dam-1 age by the grasshoppers. Our new schoolhouse is in course of erection, with many other new buildings build-ings also going up. Reg vt,a u CoKttEsrosDKsT. |
