Show V" ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ-- L " HITS THE SAIL' ON THE HEAD. I The Salt Lake Herald says that in reality the question of questions before J the people of Utah to-day is, do they j J want Statehood? It would appear that in the meeting in the Salt Lake Thea- i tie last "Wednesday evening, (a report i of which The Dispatch publishes j this issue,) there were a large number I of Republicans who do not want Utah to become a State. Why? Because, j says the Herald, they are men inter- ested in maintaining the animosities and the dead issues of the past; because be-cause they are afraid of the future; because be-cause they are men who in a fair field and with no favors fear that their insignificance will become apparent and they will sink into that oblivion fivin which the curse of territorial vassalage existing in Utah has preserved pre-served them; or, where this is not the case, then it is purely out of a spirit of blind hatred to which they would sacrifice sac-rifice the peace, progress and bappi- ness of the people of this territory. f The people of Utah, however, may take I courage. The future is not in the J hands of these men who say "no"' to f the question, "Do we want Utah to "f become a state?"' The march of events is toward that goal, and these men are powerless to stop it. They c.i.'i no more stay the coming event than they can control the ebb and flow of the tides. |
