Show CITY COUNCIL MEETS. Various Koutine Business Transacted. C A. Conkling Desires to Take Photographs on Sunday. The City Council met in adjourned session on Monday evening, May 25. 1S91, with Mayor Booth in the chair. The communication of J. C. Nielson. reporting the fact.that the ground of the Fublic Fark was in such a condition condi-tion as to necessitate its plowing, was read and action postponed until later in the session. A communication from L. J. Xut-tall, Xut-tall, stating that he would like the water ditches to his lots replaced, the road supervisor having destroyed them in grading down the sidewalks around his property two years ago,was referred to the committee on irrigation, with supervisor added, witli instructions instruc-tions to act in the matter without waiting to report. The application ot It. S. Ilines, for a renewal of his license as retail liquor dealer, was read. Councilor Dixon "What is the location lo-cation of the place of business'1" The Mayor "Corner of I aud Seventh streets."' Dixon "Well, that isn't hardly correct cor-rect yet; but I hardly know if we can get any nearer to it. The way it now reads, he can sell liquor in his drug store." The Mayor "Well, doesn't he?" Dixon '-Xo, he sells it in his saloon." sa-loon." ( Booth uHow do you know it?" Dixon "Well, I do know it." "Then he ought to be prosecuted." "Yes; that's just what 1 think." The application was referred back to t.lie annlieant for a more definite loca tion of the place of business where liquor is to be sold. The petition of S. M. Duggins, for retail liquor dealer's license, was granted. The committee on printing, to whom was re 1 erred the petition of D. W. Lewis fc Co., of Boston, asking the privilege of furnishing the city with maps, recommended the purchasing of ten maps at $6 each. The report was adopted. The committee on quaiantine reported re-ported back the claim of George Cluff without any recommendation and asked that it be referred to the board of health. Beport adopted. The following claims were allowed and amounts appropriated: J. C. Aielr-on, trees and labor, $137; C. D. Glazi: r, hay. 814.10; committee on public pub-lic grounds aud city property, $17.50; committee on east drain, $6;" committee commit-tee on quarantine.$7.2-5; committee on finance. $14.60; committee on streets and alleys, $34; liobt. Boyden, hauling gravel, $10; Steam Laundry, washing blankets, s'9; J. E. Booth, copying ordinance-. $3.'. 10; J. M. Jensen, services as city recorder, $134; J. E. Booth, services ser-vices as Mayor for quarter, $100. The claim of A. A. Noon, for three months' rent of office, ending April 30, lS91,$lo, was leferred to committee commit-tee on police and city prisons. A petition from C. A. Conkling. stating that it was a public necessitv for photographic studios to be open on Sunday for business, and asking the privilege of keeping open his studio that day, was read and referred to the committee on judiciary. Councilor Glazier moved that the supervisor of streets be instructed to confer with the Woolen Mills Co. and the Telephone Co. to see if the poles of either company on II street could not be made to hold the wires of both companies, so as to dispense with one set of poles, on account of the street being so narrow. Carried. On motion of Councilor Glazier, the street supervisor was authorized to remove re-move all obstructions on F street, between be-tween Fifth and Sixth streets. Tiie communication of J. C. Nielson, asking the Council to order the plowing plow-ing of the Fublic Fark, was then taken up from the table. Councilor Dixon thought the financial finan-cial situation of the city would not warrant the expense. He would favor Nielson performing his part of the contract. Councilor Glazier thought the terms of the contract required Mr. Nielson to cultivate and properly care for the grounds. Councilor Ilenrichsen said there was no petting away from the contract, but he did not think it was abst.itjiely necessary to keep down every spec!: of weed. Councilor filazier said Nielson was aware of the situation of t lie grounds when he bid on the vork and was awarded the contract for being the lowest bidder. Councilor Dixon moved that the communication be. not granted. Adopted.
