Show Thursday, June 25, 2009 Obituaries Society The Gunnison Valley Gazette Weddings Craig Ronald Crane Mr. Craig Ronald Crane, 53, passed away May 27, 2009 at his home in Spring Hill, TN after a short courageous battle with cancer. Craig was born September 9, 1955, in Salina, Utah to Ronald and Leila Hampton Crane. He attended North Sevier High School, and three days after his 17th birthday enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he was honorably discharged after seven years of service. On July 27, 2003, Craig married his love and soul mate, Melanie K. Butler, in Gatlinburg, TN. He was a professional truck driver, having driven for local trucking firms until he and his wife purchased their own truck. They became team driving partners of “Just Us Trucking” where they traveled all over the United States and Canada. Craig is survived by his wife, Melanie of Spring Hill, TN; mother, Leila Crane of Salina, UT; brother, Brent (Traci) Crane of Salina, UT; sister, Melanie (Justin) Olsen of Gunnison, UT; children, Heather, Jason, Joshua and Crystal; step children, D.J. and Jessica, and 10 grandchildren. A memorial service for Craig will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the Salina 2nd and 3rd Ward, 87 South 100 East, Salina, where the family will visit with friends from 11 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services. At Craig’s request, cremation has taken place, with burial to be at a later date in the Pioneer Cemetery, Salina. Tennessee arrangements were handled by Spring Hill Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 5239 Main Street, Spring Hill, TN 931-4860059. Kelly D. Mellor “Big Kell” Fayette, Utah - Kelly Dale Mellor, 54, passed away June 21, 2009 at home in Fayette. He was born October 29, 1954 in Gunnison, Utah to Max and Thelma Sorensen Mellor. He married Lynette Sampson, May 23, 1973 in Salina, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. Kelly believed and taught that the family is the most important and valuable part of life. His every endeavor was in support of his family. He was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many areas. He was civic minded and proudly served as Fayette Town Mayor. He was instrumental in bringing the new water system and natural gas to Fayette. Kelly was a diesel mechanic and was an owner operator of his own long haul truck. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, fishing and being with his family. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Lynette, of Fayette; children, Michelle (Mike) Schoenfeld of Taylorsville, Duane Mellor of Fayette, Charlene (Dallas) Lara of Eagle Mountain, Natalie (Michael) Peterson of Page 3 Fayette; grandchildren, Haylie, Mandolyn, Max, Mikellyn and Ava; mother, Thelma Mellor of Fayette; brother, Larry (Mary) Mellor of West Jordan; sister-in-law, Jenny Mellor of Mona and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, D. Max Mellor and brother, Glenn Mellor. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 12 Noon in the Fayette LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the ward chapel on Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 and again on Thursday morning from 10:30 to 11:30. Burial will be in the Fayette Cemetery. Online guest book www. maglebymortuary.com Sesquicentennial Beard-growing Contest A beard-growing contest will be held to help celebrate the valley’s sesquicentennial celebration. Lynn Pickett’s Backhoe Service will sponsor the event and will award cash prizes and certificates for the winners in four different categories: longest, best groomed, straggliest, and most unique. The contest will run from June 24 to July 24. The judging will take place at Mayfield’s 24th of July celebration. To enter the contest, go to the Gunnison City Hall on or after June 24, clean shaven, and have your picture taken. Then come to the Mayfield celebration on July 24 to be judged. If you have any question, contact Lynn Pickett at 528-3278. 80th Birthday Andersen - Homer Jill Andersen and Devin Robert Homer will be married on June 27, 2009 in the Manti LDS Temple. Jill is the daughter of Paul and Mary Lou Andersen of Gunnison. She graduated from Gunnison Valley High School and Southern Utah University in Finance. Jill is currently working for Soltis Investment Advisors in Saint George. Jill’s grandparents are Carol Andersen and the late Keith Andersen of Gunnison and Mary Seaman and the late Smoot Seaman of Cedar City. Devin is the son of Robert and Rhonda Homer of South Jordan. He graduated from Copper Hills High School and Dixie College in Business. Devin is currently attending Southern Utah University where he is working on his Masters of Business Administration and is working for Intermountain Golf Cars in Mesquite, Nevada. He served in the LDS Brazil Ribeirao Preto Mission. Devin’s grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lee Homer and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Burbank both of Midvale. A reception will be held to honor the couple at the Andersen residence on June 27 from 7 until 9 p.m. The couple will be living in Saint George. Gladys Tuttle Andersen Gladys was born on July 1, 1929 in Manti, Utah. During her teen years she was an attendant to Miss Manti and a cheerleader at Snow College. She married Roger C. Andersen on July 28, 1950 in the Manti Temple. Gladys still lives in the home she moved into when she married nearly 60 years ago. She is the mother of four daughters, 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She has been active in many organizations including Primary, Relief Society, PTA, Artista Club and Gunnison JayCettes. She served as a worker in the Manti Temple, as the Snow College Alumni President and is currently enjoying her service as a hospital volunteer. In 1976 she received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America for her work in Cub Scouting. She enjoys gardening, homemaking and traveling. She has traveled all over the world and across the United States, but her favorite vacation spot remains the Fish Lake cabin. Please join in a celebration of her 80th birthday at an open house in her honor on Wednesday July 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at her home on 140 E. 100 S. in Gunnison. 60th Anniversary Finlayson - Park Timothy Scott Finlayson and Chelsea Ann Park were married in the Manti LDS Temple on Saturday June 20, 2009. A garden reception followed that evening in Nephi at the home of the bride’s parents. There will be an open house in honor of the couple at the Mayfield Town Hall, June 27 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Please come join us in the celebration. Chelsea is the daughter of Kent and Diane Park of Nephi. She is a 2005 graduate of Juab High School where she was active in sports and cheerleading. She attended UVU and graduated in cosmetology at SUU in Cedar City. She is currently working in Utah County. Tim is the son of Clair and Michele Finlayson of Mayfield. He is a 2005 graduate of Gunnison High School. He worked as a Gunnison City lifeguard for several years and then at Peterson Plumbing. Tim attended Snow College prior and following a LDS mission in Salvador, Brazil. He is presently working in Provo where he plans to continue his schooling in animal science. This year marks 60 years of living life to the fullest for them. Please join them on Sunday, June 28 anytime between 4 and 6 p.m. to celebrate 60 years of living and loving. Cookies, punch and laughter will be served. It will be at their house, 100 North and 95 East in Centerfield. Please come by and share some memories. Bob and ArLou have lived most of their life in Centerfield and have been such an asset to the community, always involved in church and civic projects for their entire lives. The Edwards have three children, Collin (Becky), David (Karen), and Marilyn (Mitch) Anderson. They have six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. They have also hosted a foreign exchange student from Mexico, and have been foster grandparents to 24 foreign exchange and/or foster children. Traveling, gardening, loving great grandkids, hand crafting beautiful log collector items and exercising are just a few of the things keeping Bob and ArLou busy these days. Through the years Bob and ArLou have faced and overcome many challenges in their lives. They have run the whole spectrum with smiles and looking forward to each day. Changing careers, facing health problems and all of the different things that life brings just formed a stronger bond with each passing year. “Dad and Mom, you are the best. Happy Anniversary and we love you!!!” |
