Show Page 2 The Gunnison Valley Gazette Arts Camp to participate in the sesquicentennial celebration As part of the Gunnison Valley Sesquicentennial activities, the Inouye Institute for the Arts invites the community to the 2009 Creative Arts Camp performance at Gunnison Valley High School on Friday, July 3, at 4 p.m. Camp participants spanning the ages of four to fourteen will use music, memoir, and dance to help the audience experience the challenges, frustrations and heroism of people from Gunnison Valley history, such as Louisa Mellor, Joseph Bartholomew, Grover Jensen, and more. Join the youth of the Creative Arts Camp in exploring the past’s connection to the present, and the way in which the passing years have shaped the land and the people who live in our community. To further commemorate Gunnison Valley’s history, a quilt made by the Thursday, June 18, 2009 Axtell News by AUDREY BOORE Jessica and Eric Pratt of Salina have a new son. Lincoln Rick was born June 10, 2009. He weighed 6 pounds 7 ounces and was 18 1/2 inches long. Lincoln was welcomed home by his older sister Madeleinne Molly, grandparents Kerry and Nannette Despain and great-grandparents Kaye and Maruis Despain. The little park beside the post office looks so nice this spring with the lawn, trees and flowers. What a difference from a few years back when it was a pile of rocks, tree branches and weeds. Thanks to those who keep the area so nice. Megan and Morgan Cejudo are on the 2009-10 Gunnison Valley High School G-Gettes drill team. Have a great year, girls. The dancers from The Danz Studio in Gunnison competed in the USA Dance Championships last weekend at Lagoon along with teams from Utah and Idaho. Aspen Burr competed in the Amateur Jazz Division and with her two team members won 3rd place. Dalton Burr competed in the 7th-10th Grade Jazz Division along with five other members and they placed 3rd. In the Hip Hop Division, the Gunnison team placed 3rd; Dalton was also a member of this team. Dalton also competed as a soloist in the 10th and Older Division and placed 3rd. Great job, Danz Studio! Many families had family home for Father’s Day. If anyone was camping they surely had a wet, rainy day on Saturday. By the calendar, summer is supposed to be here but the weather leaves one to wonder. As the saying goes, “Wait five minutes and the weather will change” seems to be proving true this spring. The farmers are having trouble getting the first crop of hay cut and dry enough to bale. Seems as many farmers are making silage of a lot of crop. It will be donated to the 4th of July auction. 2008 Creative Arts Camp participants will be sold at the annual July 3rd auction. To learn more about the camp, please visit www.inouyeinstitute.org.
