Show Opinions Page 2 The Gunnison Valley Gazette Thursday, November 20, 2008 Letters to the editor... THANKS TO GVMS THEATER TRADITION Dear Editor, We enjoyed seeing Gunnison Middle School’s production of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. What a cute set, especially the candy striped cogs of the factory! What cute costumes, especially the shorts and green wigs of the Oompa Loompas! What cute kids, especially when they were doing those fun dances! We’d like to thank Directors Kristal Childs and Stella Hill for the theater tradition they’ve created at the middle school. If it weren’t for them, the “previous experience” line on the high school audition forms would be left mostly blank as students came to audition. Previous experience counts for an awful lot. Previous experience singing to an accompaniment that may not always play your note, previous experience projecting and annunciating so that the audience can hear and understand you, previous experience dovetailing your lines with other actors; every show greatly increases a participant’s ability. Thanks for giving 90 kids a year (including two of our own so far) “previous experience” before high school. It’s a huge job and you do it well! Thanks for giving students a chance to experience the “smell of greasepaint and the roar of the crowd.” Thanks for passing on your love of the theater to so many who then move on to high school to become stars of the shows there! We appreciate you. Sincerely, Mark and Anita Lyons Santa Claus is coming to Gunnison City Hall on Friday November 28th at 11am The Gunnison Valley Businessmen Association will be Sponsoring a Matinee at the Casino Star Theatre, “Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium” on Friday November 28 at 2 pm. WHY WE NEED A NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL To the citizens of Gunnison Valley, We need a new elementary school because the one we have now is infested with asbestos, the pipes are leaking, the heating and air conditioning are not working properly, and there is not enough electrical outlets. Taxes will not go up to help build a new school. I think that we should build a new elementary school so that our children could have a better and safer place to learn and work. Thank you for voting yes to build the new Gunnison Valley Elementary School. Nathan Peterson Boy Scout Remember When... Come take a horse drawn wagon ride thru Christmas Land and a live Nativity.
