Show Cyan Magenta Yellow Black Wednesday, February 16, 2005 A13 Sanpete Messenger-Gunnison Valley Edition Templars way back within one point early in the fourth quarter. However, Manti was able to maintain their narrow victory for the win. Frischknecht produced 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Templars, followed up by Josh Hugentobler with nine. On Friday against South Sevier, the Templars had a similar performance and rode dominant second and third quarters to victory. Manti started out slowly, and found themselves down by five after one period, 8-13. However, the Templars woke up in the second and third to outscore the Rams 41-19. Manti had two players with outstanding performances. Both Hugentobler and Travis Thompson tallied game-high 21 points, followed by Frischknecht with nine and Salanoa with eight. The Templars will take their first place standing against the current 2-A champion Parowan Rams. Parowan is a young team, in the process of rebuilding. They have produced a 3-8 record in Region 13 play with an average of 34 points per game. Manti handed Parowan their lowest-scoring loss of the season, 43-21 on Dec. 16, 2004. The Templars will face off against the Rams this Saturday at Snow College at 7 p.m. Hawks scored big as well for the year. Lacey Collard ended the regular season with 65 points total, averaging about three points per game. Mandy Johnson had 52 points for the year, averaging about three points per game. Toni Garlick ended with 38 points, averaging about two points per game. Talisha Livingston finished with nine points, averaging about one point per game. Three sophomores also posted some large numbers. Aubree Poulson led the pack with 84 points in the year, averaging about five points per game. Laney Jacobsen finished with 68 points for the year, about four points per game. Skylar Dunn ended with 51 points, averaging about three points a game. (Continued from A10) aged only one-of-two shooting from beyond the arc. On Friday night North Sanpete came out tight against Delta, where a win could have pulled them into a third place Region 8 tie with the Rabbits. The Hawks managed only two buckets by Watson and Poulson as Delta stormed to a 17-4 lead after the first quarter. The Hawks went on a 12-0 run to open the second period, closing the lead to one, but Delta’s Derek Lindstrom scored the last two baskets of the quarter to put the Rabbits ahead 24-16 at the break. John Anderson and Kyler Wheeler both hit 3-pointers along with two-point baskets to aid the Hawk surge. Anderson put North Sanpete on top for the first time when he drained a pair of threes in the last two minutes of the third quarter and the Hawks led 31-30 heading into the final period. The lead went back and forth until Delta’s Spencer Stoddard scored his only points of the game, going five-for-six from the free throw line in the final minute to put the Rabbits up 41-39. North Sanpete got the ball with 1.5 seconds left in the game, but Anderson’s three bounced off the rim and Delta escaped with the win. Lindstrom finished with 11 points, leading Delta, while Anderson had 15 for North Sanpete, including three 3-pointers. Second ranked Snow Canyon (18-2) will host the 11-9 Hawks Friday in the first round of the 3-A playoffs. The Warriors’ only losses came in their last game of the preseason, 4033 against 4-A Lone Peak, and 49-48 in last week’s regular season finale against second place Pine View. conducive to security and creates tremendous challenges to guarantee that someone can’t mess with our food supply. “It’s better that some of the details aren’t reported,” he added. A new issue facing the Department of Agriculture and Food is air quality. The Environmental Protection Agency has issued clean air standards for dairies over 700 head and large turkey farms among other large operations. Although Utah was not mentioned specifically in the EPA proclamation, Blackham is mak- ing plans for implementing the new rules. Blackham is creating a partnership between the department and the Division of Environmen- tal Quality, the Farm Bureau, and farmers and ranchers across the state. He does not want to simply impose rules, but build working partnerships. (Continued from A10) Richfield stayed just out of reach until the final minutes of the half, when Manti’s defense stopped the Wildcats, and Templar Devin Frischknecht made three slashing moves into the paint for six points and a 3232 tie going into the half. Manti started the second half patiently, and quickly jumped out to a seven-point lead. The teams went back and forth until Richfield clawed their Travis Childs Katherine Davis Two students named for Bulldog Pride Award GUNNISON—Gunnison Valley High School has announced Travis Childs and Katherine Davis as recipients of the Bulldog Pride Award, given in recognition of service to school and community.
