near the city well to the northeast of eureka C E rife of the reporter made a partial canvas of the business district and found a large majority of the business men mien against the proposition in fact only tour four out of more than twenty five favored the improvement as their statements published in connection with this article will show the city officers in view of tho the opposition which has developed to their plan sent E W redmond out tor for the purpose of learning the sentiment of the people particularly the taxpayers we don t know the result of his canvas but we do know that the matter has been put up to the people in a misleading manner residents of eureka have been asked whether or not they favor a playground tor for the children and naturally many of them have answered in the affirmative we be lieve that every man and woman in eureka favors a public playground it it is properly located this paper has opposed the park but has always favored a playground theodore fullmer in his article which was published last week opposed the park and advocated the establish ment of a playground but he does not think it advisable to go up on a sagebrush covered hillside nearly a mile f from om the business district tor for a loc location tion mr fullmer suggests the use ue of the high school grounds and hundreds of other people feel that t the e suggestion is worthy of con alder sider atlon ti on many other business men would favor a playground on the agh school lot but they are radl radically 11 y opposed to the plan as estt first outlined u t lined by the city tra tion 1 wh which ch was to lay out a park pla planting in g trees rc ees and grass and putting in t ane necessary water lines As we have hav already stated this would mean Z a c u ous and heavy expense to the he tap taxpayers ayers afie r lere re can be no opposition to the use 0 of f a part of the high school gro find ind which was purchased with taxpayers tar layers money and ought to be aorl for the public use if is nothing more mo e than a big open field at the present time let the city fence it an ana improve it and use a part of the lar large e lot A playground located ne near r the high school will have the aport su port chef of everyone in the city be ca ise se the first cost will be the big itam item and there will be no continuous expense er pense attached to the improve ment jon the other hand if the city of bleers ajon arc a try to force through a pro p position of building a city park as their original plans call for they wll find that nine tenths or more of I 1 the people will
