GREATER CLAIM r Adnunaof that in life which is more powerful than passion, and which is finer cv:z .Lr.a love Star Monday People Of Eureka Are Opposed To Public Park During the past week there been considerable discussion regard-- 1 lng the proposed city park, which; the city administration plana to establish near the city well to the northeast of Eureka. C. E. Rife, of the Reporter, made a partial canvas of the business district and found n large majority of the business mea against the proposition. In fact only four out of more than twenty-fiv- e favored the improvement, as their statements, published in connection with this article will show. The city officers, in view of the opposition which ban developed to their plan, sent E. W. Redmond out for the purpose of learning the sentiment of the people, particularly the taxpayers. Wa dont know the result of his canvas bat wa do know that the matter has been put np to the people in a misleading manner. Residents of Eureka have been asked whether or not' they favor a playground for the children" and naturally many of them have answered In the affirmative. We believe that every man and woman in Eureku favor a 'public playground if it is properly located. This paper baa opposed the park but has always favored a playground. Theodore Fullmer, in hla article which was published last week, opposed the park and advocated the establishment of a playground, but he does not think it advisable to go up on a sagebrush covered hillside, nearly a mile from the business district, for a location. Mr. Fullmer suggests the uqe of the high school grounds and hundred! of other people feel that the suggestion la worthy of consideration. Many other business men jwould favor a playground on the plgh school lot but they are radically opposed to the plan as first loutllned by the city administration which was to lay out a park, planting trees and grass and putting in the necessary water lines. As we havd already stated this would mean a continuous and heavy expense to the taxpayers. There can be no opposition to the use) of a part of the high school ground, which was purchased with layers money and ought to be for) the public use.
