June 26–29: WSU’s EAST Center for Technology Outreach hosts the “Interactive Storytelling in Video Games” workshop, 5–8:30 p.m. in the Noorda Building. Ages 16+ can learn inclusive storytelling and design techniques. Registration available on the EAST website for $20. Register by June 25. June 26 – 30: The Eccles Art Center will provide surface stamping & registration for the Annual Plein Air Competition, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Professional entry fee: $25 plus $10 for each additional entry, Amateur: $15 plus $5 for each additional entry. June 29: Mountain Arts & Music has received RAMP funding for their Thursday evening Open Arts & Music event in Huntsville Square. This free event offers instruction in watercolor painting, a kids art station, and an open mic. It is a weekly evening of creativity in a beautiful spot! June 29: WSU’s Outdoor Program hosts the mountain bike dawn patrol, 6–9 a.m. on various local Ogden trails. Some prior mountain biking experience required. Registration available @ Outdoor Program website. Cost is $10.50 for WSU students, $15 for public. June 30: Superhero Camp, 1:00-5:00 p.m. @ the Ogden Valley Library. July 3 & 5: Eccles Art Center will receive recently painted & framed works for the Annual Plein Air Competition, 10 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Remember that frames must include a wire & be ready for exhibit. The Art Center will be closed July 4. July 4: Independence Day! Activities at Liberty and Huntsville Park! See below. July 4: Mountain Arts & Music Festival in Huntsville Square. Up to 25 art vendors will be selling original fine art, and a line-up of awesome live music all day. if you are an artist & would like to be a vendor, please check our website to apply at mountainartsandmusic.org/2023-festival. A few spots for art vendors are still available. July 5: Artist Pamela Murphy will instruct artists ages 7 - adult on how to create/design a garden like Monet’s Garden. Tissue paper, egg carton, paper, and recyclables, 10 a.m. - 12 noon @ Eccles Art Center. Tuition, $40; includes supplies. Register @ ogden4arts.org. This is a fun class for a parent or grandparent to take with children. July 6: LEGO Robotics, 4:00 p.m. @ Ogden Valley Branch library. Use Lego WeDo to build and program a structure. All skill levels are invited to play this classic tabletop role-playing game. More info at 801-337-2660. July 6-8: Annual Huntsville Charity Yard Sale! This massive 3-day yard sale will begin @ 8:00 a.m. each day & is open to the general public. A free pancake breakfast for all shoppers will be held Friday, July 7, 8:30 - 11:00 a.m.! All proceeds donated to the Seager Memorial Clinic, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit free medical clinic in Ogden, & to local families experiencing a hardship. See article on page 1. July 7: Eccles Art Center, 2580 Jefferson Ave., Ogden, will exhibit works from the Traces of the West Competition in the Main Gallery & the recently completed works from the Plein Air Competition in the Carriage House Gallery during July. A reception for the public & artists will be held in cooperation with the Friday Art Stroll, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Awards will be posted at this reception for both competitions. Bring your own chair. There’ll be a food truck & fun to be had for those cheering on the almost95-year-old Ejnar. He will be attempting to break world records in hydro foil air chair, water skiing, and wakeboarding. Don’t miss it! Aug. 7: Utah Symphony at Huntsville Park! Yes, the Utah Symphony is coming to Huntsville Town for an evening concert. Mountain Arts & Music will be working with the symphony to offer some fun community educational events throughout the afternoon. Sept. 8: Community Foundation of Ogden Valley’s (CFOV) free community celebration, 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Sunnyfield Farm in Eden. Come take your chance in an old-fashioned cake walk or dunk your favorite valley celebrity in the dunk tank. Some activities will have a nominal charge, but many will be free.
