Show The Ogden Valley News Page 6 Volume XXX Issue VIII July 1, 2023 Announcements Obituaries Betty Day Allen 1930 ~ 2023 Betty Day Allen, beloved by all who knew her, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2023 at the age of 93. She lived a full and wonderful life. Betty was born in 1930 to Raymond and Florence Day. Betty enjoyed her teen years in Ogden, Utah where she attended Ogden High School. She loved to dance and perform with church dance groups. Later she married Scott D. Allen in the Logan Temple. Together they raised a family in Salt Lake City. A loving mother to her children Jarl (Janice) Allen, Jenna (Jeffrey) Holt, and Lesly Allen, Betty’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her 10 wonderful and talented grandchildren and her 15 great-grandchildren with one more on the way. Betty’s favorite activity was attending her grandchildren’s numerous dance and musical performances. She was always the first one in line, sometimes arriving two hours early to get a front row seat. Betty worked and volunteered with the Utah Heritage Foundation. She loved giving Kevin Jay Lane February 20, 1951 ~ June 7, 2023 Kevin Jay Lane passed away on June 7, 2023. He was born on February 20, 1951 in Ogden, Utah to Chet and Donna Lane. Kevin graduated from Ben Lomond High School Kevin Lane in 1969 and he enjoyed the last 30+ years living in Ogden Canyon. Kevin is survived by his two daughters, Heidi Olmedo (Jim VanNess) and Steffani (James) Ebert, his brother Rick (Patti) Lane, his sister Shari (Courtney) Cluff, seven grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents. A gathering of family and friends was held at his home on Sunday, June 25. tours of restored homes. Betty loved to travel and see new sights and places. Betty never met a tour she did not want to take or give. She volunteered many summers on the East Coast as a docent with the National Park Service. She and Scott would drive across the country and live in National Park Service housing and Betty would give tours as a guide. When she was 70 years old, she took a trip to England and France with her daughters and some of her granddaughters. She outwalked and out-toured everyone. When she was 80, she spent two weeks traveling around China. She hiked a section of the Great Wall and as she descended the steps, she was met with applause and bows from the crowd below. Betty loved to host parties for extended family, neighbors, and friends. Her chocolate cakes were legendary. She loved to ski with her family and snowshoe with her friends. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved reading the newspaper. She was known in the family as the best giver of gifts. She would spend months searching out the perfect item for individual family members. Betty was preceded in death by her husband and her sister Ruth Pease. A graveside service for Betty was held Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at the Huntsville, Utah Cemetery. Betty’s family invites all who knew her to join them in celebrating her life. Condolences may be shared with the family at lindquistmortuary.com. Karen Hill July 12, 1939 ~ June 11, 2023 Karen passed away June 11, 2023 from complications of heart failure. She was surrounded by her family. Karen was born July 12, 1939 in Ogden, Utah Karen Hill to William and Carmen Gibbs. She was educated in Ogden, graduating from Ogden High School. She married Dean Alma Hill May 1, 1957 in the SLC LDS Temple and they were married for 53 years. In 2011 Dean passed away. Karen married Kent Oborn in 2017. They were married for six years. Shas been an active member of the Ogden community her whole life. She was involved in Military Affairs, Women in Business, Spikers, and the Ogden Chamber. She has also provided service through the YCC. Karen has made hundreds of blankets for friends and people in need. She has also received many awards for her hard work and service to the community. She has been involved in the restaurant business for many years. He served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Germany Berlin mission from 2015 to 2017. Upon returning, he enrolled at Utah State University and began studying Law and Constitutional Studies and Psychology. He belonged to the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity whose focus is virtue, diligence, and brotherly love. He also served on the Logan Institute’s returned missionary committee. His first week in Logan, Ryan met Rachel Harris at the LDS Institute and they quickly fell in love. After becoming engaged in Lund, Nevada, they were sealed in the Payson, Utah temple on September 22, 2018. They built their household together in Logan, Utah while they continued their schooling. Rachel graduated with a degree in Family Finance while Ryan continued preparing for law school and participating in political campaigns. They enjoyed keeping their newlywed apartment wellstocked with boxes of cold cereal and spending time with friends and family. Ryan and Rachel always enjoyed cooking together and watching old classic television shows. The week they were married, Ryan began experiencing weakness and tremors and was eventually diagnosed with ALS, a fatal neurode- Deceased Steakhouse. Then, in 1985, Karen and Dean opened the Timbermine Steakhouse with their friends Carl and Pat Jorgensen. The restaurant is still going strong 37 years later. Karen had so many special people who were a big part of her life. She has loved many great employees, customers, and friends. Her loved ones and family were the light of her life. Karen loved to go shopping, play golf, travel, and spend time with her family. She took her family on many fun adventures and taught them how to work hard. Karen is survived by her husband, Kent Oborn; 4 children, Kathy Eastman (Irlene), Linda Tanner (Roy), Mike Hill (Deanna), and Julie Roylance (Doug); 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. We would like to thank the staff at Ogden Regional ICU for the excellent care Karen received. We would also like to thank all of the wonderful and loving employees at the Timbermine Steakhouse who have loved and supported Karen and the family through this difficult time. After receiving the terminal news, Ryan and Rachel moved in with Rachel’s family in the town of Huntsville for support in transitioning to their new reality. By 2020, Ryan’s condition had become more severe, and they moved to Elk Ridge to live with Andy and Debbie after renovations to the house made it more accessible for Ryan in his wheelchair. Rachel and Andy were heroic in their roles as caregivers to Ryan throughout his sojourn with ALS. Determined to start a family, Ryan and Rachel were blessed with a baby girl by Christmas 2021. Molly Noel May was perfect for her father, snuggling on his lap, giving him kisses, drinking from his water bottle straw, and tickling his paralyzed feet. A lover of our good green earth, Ryan surrounded himself with plants and wildlife. Wherever he was, you could often find him tracking the activities of critters and birds. He was a brilliant strategist with an unparalleled competitive drive. Disability assistive technology enabled Ryan to play all manner of games with his family up to the last month of his life. He was opinionated, honest and ravenously listened to politics and news. Ryan’s faith never wavered throughout his life. He served faithfully in many callings, including Ward Mission Leader, Ward Clerk, Elder’s Quorum Teacher, and his highest calling as husband and father. His ability to give powerful priesthood blessings was a great strength to his wife and daughter. He had a happy disposition, even amidst immense trials. His legacy of faith and hope will continue to inspire all who knew him. Ryan is survived by his faithful wife, Rachel; his daughter, Molly; his parents; and five brothers: Scott (Andi) in Spanish Fork, Tanner in Eagle Mountain, Garrett (Jocelynn) in Washington D.C., Carter in Provo, and Brandon in Lehi. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Jim and Pauline May. We mourn our separation from Ryan but celebrate the separation of his spirit from his broken body. Funeral services were held Monday, June 19, 2023 at the Elk Ridge Stake Center. A graveside service was also held the next morning, Tuesday, June 20 at the Huntsville cemetery, where Ryan’s body was laid to rest. Arrangements coordinated through Premier Funeral Services.
