These statewide competitions will open Friday, July 7 and continue through Saturday, July 29, 2023. A reception for artists and the public will be held in association with Ogden’s Art Stroll on Friday, July 7, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Awards for the competition will be posted at this reception. This evening’s entertainment, Bob Adams and his group Ogden String Theory, will play in the courtyard. The Ogden Pioneer Days—Traces of the West Statewide is competitive, open artists who presently reside in the state of Utah and who choose to work within a western theme. Western themes include western landscapes, native Americans, cowboys, cowgirls, indigenous wildlife, and domestic animals. Original works in a variety of media will be represented. Reproduction prints and photographs will not be included in this exhibit. Many of the works accepted for this exhibit will fit well in a mountain cabin or farm or ranch house creating a splendid addition to your western art collection. This July, add a visit to the Eccles Art Center’s Traces of the West competition exhibit to your Utah Pioneer Days celebration activities. The Eccles Art Center’s Plein Air exhibit is competitive; open to artists, professionals and amateurs who are interested in creating works onsite out-of-doors and not in a studio. The exhibit will include original works painted between June 26 and July 5 within the boundaries of Weber County. The Plein Air Competition boundaries were established for artists to capture the historic architecture of Ogden and explore with paint the natural beauty of Weber County. Patrons and art collectors are invited to view these freshly painted works or add one to their private collection. These competitive art exhibits receive funding from the Ogden Pioneer Days Foundation, Ogden City through Ogden City Arts and Nine Rails, the Utah Legislature’s Division of Arts and Museums, and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Eccles Art Center’s regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The center is closed Sundays and on major holidays, including July 4 and July 24. After a fight with her dad, April packs her stuff and leaves for good, setting off on a journey to find a life that’s all hers.
