For about ten years, I have been working to clear woad from the access road to the Antenna Tower above Wolf Creek from SR-158 Powder Mountain Road. Originally, the county, who is responsible for maintenance, used to spray this and were happy to stop. The roadside vegetation, especially on the downhill side, was cheat grass and dyers woad. For four to five years, the woad was all cut; seeds bagged, if necessary; then, after that, dug out each year (5 years). The time commitment dropped from three days to one day, then to a half day. Now a few hours! Yesterday I went up there, expecting Mega Woad. But NO! There was none over the onemile road, on either side. However, there were beautiful wildflowers, and a few dried carcasses of woad from whomever had been there before me. Thank you, whoever you are! People, clearing woad does work. It just takes time and commitment to “your patch.” May brown seeds never hit the ground! And Thank You to All Woad Warriors and Woad Fairies! Miranda Menzies, Eden Community Foundation of Ogden Valley Says Thank You! CFOV and its sponsors hosted the first Music on the Patio event of the summer Tuesday, June 13 at Wolf Creek Resort. Nearly a hundred Valley residents spent a beautiful evening under the stars enjoying the music of Eden’s Yellow Rose band. Wolf Creek Resort provided food and drinks for what was a memorable kick-off to the summer season. Several of the nonprofit organizations supported by CFOV were also on hand to share information about the valuable work they do to help make Ogden Valley such a wonderful place to live, play, and give. Participating nonprofits included K9 Search and Rescue, Ogden Valley Land Trust, and Ogden Adaptive Sports. To raise money to fulfil its mission of supporting local nonprofits, CFOV sold tickets to an Opportunity Drawing. Nanci Lifer went home with a two-person inflatable kayak! If you are interested in participating in the next drawing or donating to CFOV, please visit the organization’s website at CFOV.net. CFOV would like to extend a special thanks to Eden’s Yellow Rose for the fantastic music they provided. The band is scheduled to play at CFOV’s Second Annual Farm Festival on Friday, September 8 at Eden’s Sunnyfield Farm. Mark your calendar now for an event you won’t want to miss!
