State Golf SF Football: From SF • A14 for a 46-yard TD pass to even the score at 7. In the second, a Merik Richardson interception sparked the Dons' offense, as Inoke recorded his second score of the game on a three-yard run, bringing the score to 14-7. With less than a minute left in the half, Inoke came up big again, this time on defense. The~ speedy Don picked up an interception, which three plays later led to a 45-yard touchdown pass from Nielsen to Still, giving SF a comfortable 20-7 lead going into halftime. Any sense of comfort disappeared on the first play of the second half, as Springville's Raul Delga- do returned the kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown. A missed PAT left the score at 20-13, Spanish Fork. Springville again found paydirt on a 32-yard pass from Bate to Brandon Boyer. The PAT tied the game at 20 with 5:53 left in the third. In the fourth, the Dons began to move the ball with some consistency, going from their own 25 to the Springville 42, where Nielsen hooked up with Chase Loftin for a 42-yard TD reception as Spanish regained the lead 27-20. Springville answered quickly with a 65-yard touchdown run by Marcus Case to again tie the game. Spanish Fork seemed confident moving the ball, but a fumble and then an interception by Delgado spoiled the Dons' hopes of putting the game away. After a Springville TD was called back for holding, the Devils again found the end zone on a 21-yard pass from Bate to Todd Gillies, to take their first lead of the night, 33-27, with 19.3 seconds left on the clock. The Dons tried a reverse on the ensuing kickoff, with Loftin handing off to Still, who made his way to the Dons' 39 yard-line. With seven seconds on the clock, Nielsen connected with Loftin as Springville brought pressure with a blitz. The speedy receiver made his way to midfield, but was tackled out of bounds as time expired, leaving the final score 3 3 27, Springville. SH Football: From SALEM • A14 driving to the 11 yard-line, only to turn the ball over on a muffed pitch. Payson took over and drove the length of the field and scored a TD, but couldn't convert the two point conversion, making the score 22-21 with a little over four minutes left in the game. Salem's offense once again took the field, and put together a spectacular drive, that culminated with a 33-yard TD pass to Josh Warr. Adams was able to convert the two-point conversion with a threeyard run to put Salem up 29-22. Unfortunately for the Skyhawks, there were still about two minutes left in the game. Payson received the ball and drove down all the way to the 30 yard-line. This is where the Skyhawks' defense rose to the occasion and forced two consecutive sacks on third and fourth down to put the game away for Salem. This win seemed to be a battle of wills, and in the end Salem wanted it more. "During the timeouts towards the end of game when Payson was driving, I just told the guys that it's going to come down to who wants it more, and that we were going to have to want it more than those guys," said Stewart Spencer, a middle linebacker who had to fill in for the injured Jaxon Munns. "We had a really good week of practice, and it was really just a team effort tonight." Barry Dalton / The Sentinel STATE TOURNAMENT: The state 4A boys golf tournament was held Oct. 7-8 at Glen Eagle.
