Show Sentinel Guardian of Your Community News WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2009 • A5 Country Farm Fest planned Kiersten, Eric and Derek Dumas of Salem Hills High School have chosen to organize a 3-day pumpkin party as part of their National FFA Organization project. The family farm, located at 4058 West 9600 South, Payson, will be open to the public Oct. 15-17 for the third annual Country Farm Fest. The fest offers fun for the entire family, including entertainment by The Old Time Fiddlers, marshmallow roasting and cowboy poetry by Marion Manwill. As part of the event, the 15-year old siblings invite everyone to participate in the pumpkin carving contest. There will be prizes awarded in several categories including cutest, scariest (no gore, please), most original, and best farm theme. Contest entries will be accepted and displayed all three days of the festival. Nebo Jr. High and Salem Hills High Schools FFA programs will organize the contest and staff the pumpkin carving station, as well as judge the entries. Judging for the jack-olanterns will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. Aaron Reimschiisel will present a pumpkin-carving demonstration on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 1-3 p.m. There will also be a pumpkin weigh-off on Saturday with prizes awarded for the largest and smallest — even the middleweight gets a prize. Judging will be at 4 p.m. Costume contests will be held and judged at 12 p.m. each day. Come help the FFA meet their goal of 101 carved pumpkins. Happy birthday Cami Jo Anderson! 40th birthday Obituary Alecia Duncan Smith loved with all of her heart because of the children and her coworkers. Alecia was married to Jared Smith and then later divorced. From that marriage came Alecia's greatest blessings, two beautiful and loving children, Makayla Smith, age 14; and Jarren Smith, age 12. Alecia received her endowments surrounded by family in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple on Aug. 15,2009. This endowment provided great comfort to Alecia and her family. Alecia is survived by her children Makayla and Jarren Smith of Payson; mother and father, Kerry L. and Nedra Houser Duncan of Spanish Fork; brothers, Thomas W. (Bill) and Cindy Duncan of Spanish Fork, and Tyler L. and Korie Duncan of Spanish 1970-2009 Our sweet little angel Alecia Devon Duncan Smith (39) peacefully returned home to her Heavenly Father on Oct. 8 surrounded by her family and friends. Alecia succumbed to cervical cancer after fighting this miserable illness for 2 1/2 years. Alecia was born on July 21, 1970 to Kerry L. and Nedra Houser Duncan in Provo. Alecia was raised in Spanish Fork where she attended schools in the area and graduated from Spanish Fork High School. For employment Alecia found her love in working with and providing transportation to children as a school bus driver. Before the illness, Alecia was employed with Centro De La Famila De Utah. This is a job that she c&c tg Fork;--five nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, Cody Duncan, Houser Duncan, Alixandra (Ali) Duncan, Koby Duncan and Shealynn Duncan; and last of all two animal companions, Nugget and Otis, who were with her to the end. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 15 at the Wolf Hollow 2nd Ward Chapel, 870 East Canyon Road, Spanish Fork, with a viewing Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 6-8 p.m. at the church and Thursday, prior to services from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Spanish Fork Cemetery. A heartfelt thank you comes from the Duncan family and is directed to those caregivers of VistaCare hospice who worked with Alecia and provided exemplary care to her for the past couple of months. We wish to knowledge Dr. Garner and Dr. Wallentine who provided excellent medical care, and especially those caregivers who provided hands-on care, Nancy, Holly, Rosemary and Kathy.
