Show Guardian of Your Community News B4 • WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2009 Park Courtesy photos GOING GREEN: Green Clothes Day, Green Hat Day and green ribbons were all a part of the Green Ribbon Week at Park School in Spanish Fork. Thanks to the Park PTA, the students learned a lot about being safe and becoming more physically fit. One of the events during Green Ribbon week included an assembly to honor the crossing guards that work so hard to keep Park students safe. Those honored were Ernest Taylor, Kelly Fullmer and Melissa Zuber. At the same assembly the Park Students were able to hear three BYU athletes explain how important it is to stay physically fit. The athletes that visited Park School were two track team members, Jessica Hauser and Keving Biesinger, and Chad Nacapoy, a baseball player. Keep fit and keep staying safe Park School. Students were enlightened as they listened to their classmates' various heritages and histories. Famous ancestors in the fourth grade included pioneers that walked the plains to Utah, an Olympic medalist, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and even Captain Cook. GREEN RIBBON WEEK: Riverview Elementary students recently celebrated "Green Ribbon Week." Throughout the week students participated in many contests concerning safety and learned the importance of being careful when crossing the street. One of the highlight events of the week was when students got to cross the street with Utah's Flash Fox Mascot of the Utah Flash. Riverview Elementary would like to thank the RT.A. for putting together such a fun week for our students. In small groups, students demonstrated their knowledge by mixing materials together to create a chemical change. Each group then presented their experiment to the class and identified what the reactants, products and indicators were in their experiment. These scientists recognized changes in temperature, production of a gas or solid, and unexpected change in color to determine that chemical changes were indeed happening. The students were given the assignment of creating a musical instrument from materials they found around their house. The instrument had to be able to make sound and vary in pitch level. The students then had to tell about their instrument and explain to the class how the sound is produced by using terms like pitch and vibration. It was a fun educational project, and the students learned a lot. Pictured showing off their instruments are sixth-graders from Mr. Ryan Murray's class. |
