Event to benefit local family The Mark the Great Benefit 5K and Kids' Run will be held Saturday, Aug 1, 2009 at Benjamin Park, 7300 South 3200 West, to pay tribute to Mark Richardson and support his family. Mark, a resident of Salem, passed away suddenly June 30, 2009 at age 44 after an unexpected heart attack. Runners and walkers can download a registration form from Mark's website online or sign up on runnercard. com. "Mark was someone who could make you feel accepted and have you laughing within seconds of meeting him,1' said Susan Chapman. Mark's younger sister. "We are organizing this run to remember him in a fun-loving way, and all the proceeds go to his family." Mark has six children, four of whom are still at home. Anyone who knew Mark well from his high school years also knew him jokingly as "Mark the Great." His outgoing personality and many talents landed him this nickname early in his life. Mark could usually be found in the middle of a crowd telling jokes or stories, or tearing phonebooks in half with his bare hands. Mark will be remembered for his neighborly service, quick wit, incredible story telling ability, confident smile, physical strength and his remarkable ability to make those around him feel acceptance, joy, comfort and warmth.
