Show • N E W S - Spanish Fork B12 • WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 20, 2008 Salem Hills football: ALA football: From ALA • B l starters from a year ago but there will be some newcomers from the junior high ranks which should make an immediate impact. Micah Keeno is back for his senior year in the tailback position. Keeno is a shifty back who doesn't go down on first contact and should be fun to watch with the ball in his hands. On defense, expect to see him in the secondary as a free safety with his quickness. In the trenches, the Eagles will be anchored by Robbie Maciel, a returning starter who will be back for his senior year as the center. Maciel brings leadership and brute strength and will also play middle linebacker on defense. Peter Reed is another linebacker who will see considerable time when he's not blocking for Keeno at the fullback position. Another bright spot for the Eagles will be Cole Fullton who emerged as a big target at the tight end position a year ago. He brings athleticism to the team and will also see time as a defensive end. This year's signal caller looks to be sophomore Aaron Olsen, a move-in from northem Utah. Two other sophomore transfers from Lone Peak could find playing time at various positions as Covering what matters most well. Coach Felt said that ALA runs a pro-style offense. On defense, well, let's just say they're looking to get after their opponent. "We're going to try and attack some people,'* he said. "We don't have a lot of big guys so we're going to utilize what we think are our strengths. We have some athletic guys and we're going to do some different things." With the addition of Salem Hills High School, ALA lost at least 15 football players who would've provided much needed depth for this year's squad. Currently, the Eagles have 45 players in training camp but the coaching staff will do some recruiting once everyone is back in school. Coach Felt mentioned what he'd like his seniors to learn from their final high school football experience at ALA. "I want them to learn hard work and dedication," he said. "Because they are working hard, it's going to pay off. I want them to have success. We are starting the foundation and we begun building from scratch. The hard work will take notice with the improvement of the team. We're going to improve." The Eagles will face off against North Sevier on the road on Aug. 22. Game time is at 3 p.m. FromSHHS*Bl the kicking game. We're going to try and win by playing field position. As our offensive line matures and protects the quarterback better, then we'll open our attack up a little more. But that's kind of the name of the game right now." Morgan's teams have been known to play fundamentally sound football with precision. Rather than run a talent-based offense, he has chosen to run an execution-style offense. His teams of the past have run the ball often and this style of play Namon Bills / Spanish Fork News keeps the opposing offense on PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT: Salem Hills players run drills during the sidelines as the clock winds two-a-days in preparation for the school's first football season. down.
