While under her tutelage, the club has won several national titles in a short span of just over three years. Altogether, Oak Hills has five coaches and three loungers. A lounger is not a recliner but rather another coach who takes care of the horse. They guide the animal and help control its movement. All of these coaches are tremendously talented in their field of expertise, which helps create fun entertainment for all spectators. Vaulters perform numerous stunts while riding on the back of the horse and are crowd pleasers. From cartwheels, handstands, backflipsand pyramids with fellow teammates — you name it and they can do it. Today. Oak Hills has 50 students and they accept new additions daily. Oak Hills Vaulters involve riders of all ages, from three to 45. take classes into their middle age. "Our oldest student today is 45 years old," said Warren. The beginning stage is called "the beginning walk level" and the highest level is "gold level." Vaulters generally per- form inside of an arena with a soft landing. Unlike a cowboy in the rodeo who never knows how he'll land after each ride, vaulters learn first how to carefully fall off of the horse. Warren mentioned that vaulting is rated statistically as the safest sport and said that she's only witnessed a few sprained ankles and wrists as the worst-case scenario. There isn't a set breed or perfect horse required for this sport. But generally, they like to find one that has a calm disposition and friendly demeanor. Such a horse is easier to train. Some horses can be trained within a month and others can take up to a year to be ready for competition. But for a horse and a human being to work together in such a graceful form, it's truly fascinating. "A lot of people are amazed at how easy we make things look," said Warren. "People say, 'It doesn't even look like you're on a horse!' Others like how enthusiastic we are about it and how crowdpleasing we are. We make eye contact with the crowd because we're not just vaulting, we're performing." "My promise to you... v ; Integrity " in all we do."
