Smith Elder Riley Jay Birch has recently returned home after serving as a missionary in the Belgium, Brussels/ Netherlands Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Riley is the son of Jay and Sharalyn Birch. His Grandparents are Hal and Madge Johnson of Spanish Fork and Leland and Georgia Birch of Springville. Riley will be speaking in the North Park Ward located at 505 East 900 North, Spanish Fork, on Oct. 21 at 9 a.m. Jared M. Smith has been called to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints and has been assigned to the Philippines Bacalod Mission. The son of Don and Denise Smith of Salem, Jareti has been invited to speak during sacrament meeting at 9 a.m. this Sunday, Oct. 21 in the Knoll Park Ward of the Salem West Stake. He will enter the MTC on Nov. 14, 2007. Joseph G. Cowan Garrett Keith Shelley Garrett Keith Shelley has been called to serve in the Dallas Texas Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His parents are Mark and Pam Shelley of Spanish Fork. Garrett will be speaking on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. in the Spanish Fork South Stake Center at 1150 east 1240 south. Elder Joseph G. Cowan, has eagerly accepted a mission call to the Costa Rica San Jose Mission. He will enter the MTC on Oct. 24, 2007. Elder Cowan will be speaking on October 21 at the Payson 1st Ward, 225 South 400 East, Payson at 9 a.m. Joseph is the son of John L. and Marilyn H. Cowan. Moon, Bradley Jim and Kathy Moon are pleased to announce the marriage of their daughter, Ashley Fern, to Andrew James, son of Paul and Pat Bradley on Oct. 20 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for time and all eternity. Olsen completed his basic training during the past summer at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He has now returned home to Spanish Fork for his senior year in high school and following graduation, will go to his AIT training. Ashley recently graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology. The couple will make their first home in Spanish Fork. Obituary Mary Dean Ericksen Mary Dean Ericksen died Oct. 8, 2007 at the age of 87. at her home in Spanish Fork surrounded by her loved ones. She was born Sept. 15, 1920 in Santaquin to Fredrick John Wall and Emma Kay Wall. She received her education in Santaquin and Payson schools. She married Elbcrt (Bus) Ericksen on Dec. 28, 1937. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on Dec. 22, 1962. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She worked in many organizations in the church. She served in the Bishop's Storehouse and also at the Provo Temple. She enjoyed being a homemaker, quilting, knitting, crocheting, piecing quilts and sewing. She is survived by one daughter, Rowena (Pete) Tomadakis; two sons, Richard (Janet) Ericksen; and Doug Ericksen, all of Spanish Fork; and a sister, Zetha Taylor. She has 19 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, and 15 great great grandchildren. She is being welcomed home by her husband; her parents, one daughter, Barbara Brereton; a son-in-law, Jim Brereton; one grandson, Dee Verl Brereton; a brother, Carlyle Wall, and his wife, Lucille; and a sister, Neola. The family would like to thank Liz, Heidi, Paula, Marlene and Jason from APlus Hospice for the loving care they gave to our mother during the last two months. Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. at the Spanish Fork 6th Ward Chapel, 585 North Main Street, Spanish Fork. Family and friends called on Thursday evening, Oct. 11 from 6-8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork or on Friday morning at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior' to services.
