He is now where he spent his entire life preparing to be, in the presence of his Heavenly Father. Bob was born January 2, 1935, in Richfield, UT to James LeVar and Thora Spencer Munson. He was the youngest of six children. His early years were spent in Escalante, Utah and he never lost his love or appreciation for his little home town. Bob met the love of his life, Mavis Jones, while attending Cedar City High school. They were married in the St. George Temple in 1953. After high school graduation, Bob joined the US Army. Embarking on this new adventure with his bride, they were stationed at Fort Hood, TX. While living in Texas, the first of their nine children was born. After two years of military service, Bob returned to civilian life. Working for other people did not fit well with Bob. He was an early version of the modern-day entrepreneur. He had businesses in Cedar City, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Boise and Escalante. Bob loved the outdoors and was happiest when sharing his adventures riding four wheelers and snow machines with his family and friends. Bob had an extremely strong sense of family. Bob and Mavis made sure that their family enjoyed time working, vacationing, worshiping and just being together. Family reunions were important to Bob and he strived to maintain the strength of family ties. He counted his wife and children as the greatest blessings of his life and always strived to live worthy of the gift of family God had given him. Bob loved the Lord. He was a stalwart member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served willingly and lovingly in many callings including several leadership positions. Together he and Mavis served as missionaries in the China Hong Kong mission, Nauvoo Illinois mission and at the Mormon Handcart Historic Site-Martin's Cove mission. With a whistle on his lips and a song in his heart, Bob faced down the challenges of life. He had great influence over many lives and was a friend to all. He has left for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren a legacy of faithfulness to God and service to others. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Colleen Tucker; brother, LeVar Munson Jr; daughter, Lynn Munson; grandchildren, Amy Monsen and Jesse Monsen. Who is in the Spotlight this March? Panguitch 4-H Mentoring Club. With a wonderful advisor/site coordinator, Michelle Zubia, the Panguitch Mentoring Club has been meeting together for well over four months. The 4-H Mentoring project was new to the Panguitch area and took many hands to get up and running, so thanks to all those who have helped and supported this project. For those who are unfamiliar with the 4-H Mentoring Project here is a little back ground: a high school junior or senior one-on-one mentors a fifth or sixth grade student, this mentoring team finds strength within one another and works on weaknesses, they get involved in service activities and gain an empowering friendship. The Panguitch Mentoring Club found their power in early December 2009 when one of the club members home caught fire and was destroyed. The clubs youth and their families rallied together and had a fund raiser for that family. How amazing it was to be part of that incredible event. Not only are these youth serving each other they are forming wonderful bonds of 4-H friendship. Families have complemented on how the clubs Family Night Out activities are bringing their family closer together. How wonderful, how great, how special! Congrats to the Panguitch 4-H Mentoring Club (Mentors: Jaylen D., Cassidy J., Aaron G., Camree M., David R., Cheyenne T., Shelby T. Mentees: Jazmine B., Alicia J., Cienna M., Tyler R., Sambry S., Christopher W.) you deserve to be in the Spotlight. |
