Show March Page 201 the lAuGhiNg pOiNtr! ,o■ 44A\ Okay, so by the time this is published, I'll be back from a relief tour in Haiti having accompanied some folks attached to Utah Haiti Relief. I'm excited to go, yet, probably like with a lot of things outside of our comfort zones a little apprehensive (for those of you who've been reading my columns you know this is definitely outside of my comfort zone. Not in regards to helping people who are suffering; more in the destination I will be traveling to). But, when the opportunity presented itself in an all expense paid trip to document human interest stories from villages and orphanages in Haiti, how could I say no? "You can't pass this up," one of my friends told me. "It was meant to fall in your lap." American philosopher and psychologist, William James said, "He who refuses to embrace a unique opportunity loses the prize as surely as if he had failed." There will be many prizes in Haiti. And, I can't GARAGE DOORS Seize Opportunity wait to meet them. That is, the Haitian people and the people who are helping them, to name a few. English Churchman Robert South would agree, "Problems can become opportunities when the right people come together." I know that many of you have served missions. And, for your service I believe you are and will continue to be blessed and rewarded. I never served a mission for months or years at a time so I'm visualizing my trip to Haiti as my mission, even if it's all in one week! Recently, when I interviewed St. George Internet Entrepreneur and businessman, Jeremy Johnson, for my "GR8NESS" column in the Deseret News, titled, "Millionaire to begin his third tour in Haiti," he said, prior to embarking on what ended up being his first relief tour to Haiti last month, "I'm so glad I did it even though there were many reasons not to do it." Can't we all think of reasons not to seize an opportunity? I know I could. And, like Jeremy, definitely right now. Here are a few things we might say when an opportunity presents itself, "Now's not the right time." But, you know, regarding many things in life is there ever a right time? Or how about, "I can't do that." Well, if you don't seize the opportunity, how will you ever know? Or even, "It's too short notice," as was the case for me just finding out hours ago that I would leave within 36 hours. Trust me, most people will work with you on what you already have scheduled and they'll also cheer you on. Inspirational and motivational speaker, Anthony Robbins, coined the phrase, "Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give something back by becoming more." Until next week, what opportunity will you seize? © 2010 EverylCounts, LLC. All rights reserved. She called his office to demand an explanation. "Is this some kind of mistake?" Margie asked when she got the doctor on the phone. "No, not at all," the doctor said calmly. "Well," said Margie, "that's awfully costly for knocking someone out." "Not at all," replied the doctor. "I knock you out for free. The 1200 dollars is for bringing you back around." Going Out in Style Unable to attend the funeral after his father died, a son who lived far away called his brother and told him, "Do something nice for Dad and send me the bill." Later, he got a bill for $200.00, which he paid. The next month, he got another bill for $200.00, which he also paid, figuring it was some incidental expense. Bills for $200.00 kept arriving every month, and finally the man called his brother again to find out what was going on. "Well," said the other brother, "you said to do something nice for Dad. So I rented him a tuxedo." It Makes Sense...By Veda Hale Hey! there is an advantage to be in the category with most of us who do not make over $100,000 a year. That is that we are only at risk of being audited for taxes 1 in 154 compared to 1 in 72. Well, goody, goody! I remember one year when we did business with a righteous man who had had good luck on a business deal and made a lot of money. He felt so blessed he wanted to give the Church a double tithing. He got audited and so did we by the mere fact that we had had business dealings with him. Yes, if you show a high do- nations amount, that is one of the red flags that might get you pulled out of the stack for an audit. The other things are math errors, forgetting to sign return, underestimating income and home office expenses. I had an opportunity to really check out that myth that you could open a car door by putting a spare automatic opener up to the phone and click it as someone else held another phone to a locked car door. It didn't work. Darn! I really needed it to so I could get my keys out. Well, it took someone going out of their way to bring me an extra 9-1 la Cash* be 7-Jr; ottellic Errol, 435-616-282 9 — embutah@gmail.corn FINAL NOTES/TRIVIA FOR WINTER OLYMPICS WOW! (our) Opinion? The collections manager left a voice-mail for them saying, "We can't ship your new order until you pay for the last one." Someone mentioned you could open a car door by punching a hole in a tennis ball, putting the hole you made up to the key hole and push hard on the ball, which sends a blast of compressed air through the locking apparatus and lifting the lock. Another myth. Doesn't work. Probably a good thing or bad guys would use it all the time to steal cars.
