Show JULY 20,2006 Page 10 THE GARFIELD COUNTY INSIDER BRYCE VALLEY AREA NEWS ...bv Vicki D. Syrett 679-8687 or This heat is unbearable. I came outside on Saturday afternoon and it was 104 degrees. I almost thought I was dreaming. My grandson, whc lives in Roy, said it is even hotter up there he likes it here the best. Saturday morning dawned bright and sunny and not too hot for the runners in the 1/2 Marathon and 5K Walk for the Bryce Canyon area. It was so well organized and there were more runners this year than last. They all were so gracious and would say thanks for the water or gatorade and were delighted to be in our beautiful country. A big pat on the back for Marsha Holland and all of her committee that worked so hard for this marathon. They put together packets, got t-shirts for everyone, found volunteers for the water stations, advertised, and awarded medals to everyone that ran and special ones for the winners. Marsha it was great. We heard nothing butpositive reports from everyone. We loved the shirts and had plenty of water this year. One runner that came in towards the very end, Dot Houston of St. George, loved every minute of the run/ v alk she said. She even awarded her own prizes of beautiful crocheted doilies to a few people that she felt she wanted to have them. I was lucky enough to recieve one because she fell in love with my little adopted dog. Thanks Dot. One local runner, Sandy Johnson, wanted me to tell everyone involved how much she appreciated them and their hard work on the Bryce Canyon 1/ 2 Marathon and 5K Walk. It was very well organized she said. She goes on the thank all the volunteers at the water stations who handed out water and gatorade. She was very appreciative of those who cheered the runners on with encouragement that was needed to continue to the finish line. Good work Sandy. Other locals that I saw running were Anne Anderson of Panguitch, Marsha Holland of Tropic, Kim Ott formerly of Tropic but now of St. George, Teresa Anderson Deccio of Las Vegas but forJtn^y of Bryce, Hayley Syrett Pollock %f||£yce, and I know there were others -^iflppissed theqi. If you ran give me a fcafKarid we wiljfcgive ypuxredit where credit is due. . "V !&he Bryce Valley High School BasebaliiTeam went to Mesa Arizona with Coach Eric Jessen and they did very well. Coach Jessen said our boys represented our area very well and they did a super job. He would like to remind the players and parents of a Baseball Tournament coming up on the 8th and 9th of August here in Tropic. This tournament will be the boys first game of the season. In the meantime practice begins on July 31st at 6:00 A. M. or 7:00 P.M. and you have to be to one or the other or both. The A. Saturday night they presented Rita with a framed family picture of the "Family Proclamation to the World" showing the family as well. They also gave her a scrapbook titled, "Our Mom" and it was filled with memories of their childhood, both the good and the not so good. It was a delightful evening for all but mostly for Rita who loved every minute of it. The evening was concluded with singing of songs from a song book the family had mad of some of Rita's favorite songs. Congratulations Rita on a super great birthday and celebration. Rachael Johnson and her friend, Hunter Sheedy, along with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sheedy of Florida, came to southern Utah for the 4th of July activities and to do some sight seeing in our beautiful cpuntry sidle and to join the Thompson reunion. Hunter's step-mother is a relative of George Thompson. Gary and Sandy Johnson got a phone call from Sarah Johnson Bradshaw, informing them that their family, Brady, Sarah, Sadie and Ayden, had just arrived in Beaver for and unexpected two week vacation. They had driven all night from Lubbock, Texas, their new home, just to surprise both families. What an awesome surprise for everyone since they hadn't been together since last Christmas! The Bradshaws, plus Brady, Ruth, Treyton, Kasia and Kenzie Carter, and Esther and Nathan Rigby came and spent the following weekend at the Gary Johnson home visiting and attending church together. The Johnsons enjoyed having part of their family all together. Gary Johnson survived another surgery on his shoulder. This time he had to face a total shoulder replacement. We're hoping this is the last of his shoulder problems since his doctor, Dr. David Moore, just retired. Hurry and get well Gary. Gayle Moore, Susan Thompson, Helen Willis, Brenda Rose, Vicki Syrett, and Sandy Johnson all went to lunch and celebrated their July birthdays together. They laughed, talked, and had a great time. Have a great week and enjoy Pioneer Day when we celebrate our pioneer ancestors and the settling of Utah. Boulder Mountain Realty, Inc. 245 East Main P.O.
