ESCALANTE RANCH RODEO QUEEN AND PRINCESS CONTEST The newly reorganized Escalante Riding Club hosted a Ranch Rodeo Queen & Princess Contest on May 20,2006. It has been 20 years since Escalante has had a rodeo queen to represent and reign over their annual 24111 of July Celebration. These young ladies will not only reign over the annual 24th of July Ranch Rodeo, they reigned over the Memorial Day Ranch Rodeo and they will reign over the Labor Day Ranch Rodeo in September. There were five queen and princess contestants vying for the titles. Each of these ladies participated in training clinics hosted by Emilee Lott-Woolsey, a former Miss Rodeo Escalante and Miss Rodeo Utah, and Elaine Lott. The clinics consisted of training and preparation in personality & appearance, modeling, speech, and interviewing. The horsemanship clinic was hosted by the Escalante Riding Club President, Gary Blauser. During the contest the young ladies modeled their western wear, gave a public introduction and speech about 'The place they loved to be around the areas of Escalante and Boulder', answered impromptu questions, had a personal interview with the judges, ,and last but not least they completed a reigning horsemanship pattern. The contestants were Megan Richins, daughter of Curt and Diane Richins of Escalante; Lindsey Phillips, daughter of Todd and Jill Phillips of Escalante; Audrey Austin, daughter of Mark and Katie Austin of Boulder; Karlee Litteral, daughter of Robyn Litteral and Gary Blauser of Escalante; and Audrey Porter, daughter of Blaine and Nancy Porter of Escalante. The award winners were: Queen, Megan Richins; Princess, Audrey Porter; Interview, Audrey Austin; Horsemanship, Lindsey Phillips; and a special award for Courage and Tenacity, Karlee Litteral.
