AG MARKET NEWS Vi has this observation to share: The news recently had a piece about identifying a dead body found in a park. This reminded me to write about something that has been on my mind a lot lately. My half-hour walks each morning before sunrise usually take me to neighborhoods where I am not known. This morning, I stubbed my toe on a rise in the sidewalk and almost fell. That got me to thinking; what if fell and broke my hip or hit my head and died and there was no identification at all on my person?. Eventually someone would find me and call the police. The police would then take me to the hospital or the morgue and wait for someone to report me missing. But what if no one reported me missing for a few days? The police would then be faced with an identification problem, which could be difficult. Think what a lot of trouble and expense I could have saved the community had I just carried some identification on my person. It's such a simple thing to do. Silk articles may be laundered, but do it carefully. Wash in lukewarm water and a mild detergent Swish the garment in the sudsy water for a minute or two, rinse in cool water, but do not wring or twist the fabric. Doing so will set wrinkles or even stretch the garment out of shape. Instead, roll it up in a soft terrycloth towel to absorb excess water. Finally, while the garment is slightly damp, press it on the wrong side with a warm iron. If a garment does not have a label that says it may be hand washed, you may choose to wash it anyway. Test the fabric first by cutting a small piece from the hem or facing. If it tests o.k., proceed as above. For those who sew, when working on silk, before cutting out a garment, wash the fabric and press it as directed above. This way you will know that the finished garment may be laundered by hand. My friend, D. Moore sent me this recipe from New York State. I haven't tried it, but does sound interesting and delicious and a wonderful way to serve a crowd.. "Have you ever heard of Omelets in a Bag?" Diane wrote. "It's wonderful for when all your family is together Everyone gets an omelet made just to his or her liking." "Have guests write their names on a quart-size freezer bag with a permanent marker. Crack 2 large or extra large eggs into each bag. Put out a va- By Vi Blake riety of chopped ingredients such as different cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, and salsa. Guests add ingredients of choice to their bags, which are then shaken to get the air out, zipped up tight and placed in a pot (or two pots, if needed) of boiling water for exactly 13 minutes. Guests will be amazed when they open their bags and their omelets roll out easily. All the guests are-involved and everyone has a great time." Diane suggests serving these individual omelets with fresh fruit and coffee cake. Thank you, Diane, for sharing this great way to serve a crowd. I can't wait until our next family reunion to try this. Dear Veda: I was interested in the • way one of your readers camouflaged some dark spots in linoleumflooringin their kitchen with white out. Another way is to put a small scrap in the blender and when it is pulverized mix the dust with a little clear shellac or white glue and fill the hole with the mixture. Dennis Anderton, Provo, Ut. When you want to hang a picture you need to find the studs in the wall. Here's how to do it:: Moving out from the corner, tap lightly with your hammer. The wall will sound hollow between the studs. Remember that most studs are placed 16 to 24 inches apart so that once you have found one it's easy to find the rest of them.
