I was at my computer when they entered town and I knew what had happened. I have since heard that one of our 'thin dads 1 came close to the State Record for the 880 which is held by a former PHS runner, Kenneth Sevy, son of Harold and Winona Sevy. I want to warn Ken that he may have a young cousin make a run for his record in a few years. In ther recent Elementary School track meet, Wyatt Moore, son of Kevin and Deanna Moore, took first in the hurdles, was a member of the winning relay team., and took first in the 100 and 200 hundred run which he won so easily that it looked like he was running alone. I also want to congratulate our graduating Seniors for their acomplishments and especially for their choice of Graduation Announcements. It is the most striking annouincement I have ever seen for a PHS class and to me it shows that they are proud of their class and our school. It typifies the spirit of PHS. Panguich is growing by leaps and bounds. We have another new family planning on making Panguich their home. Cade & Kim Harland and their son, Cole, have moved into the apartment above the Indian Store on Main street. Cade has been working in our hospital lab for a while by commuting from Salt Lake, but Kim and Cole have only been here a few days. When I met Kim she really gave me a 'working over' (as my therapist) and will be working with David. They have purchased property out near the airport where they plan to build their home, but they would really like to find a building spot in town.(The cost of drilling a well would supply them with our excellent city water for quite a few years.) The fact that we are forcing new families wanting to move to Panguitch to go out into the County to find a place to build concerns me. Are we 'shooting ourselves in the foot?1 If you have ever flown over Panguitch or even driven around town and looked at the center of our blocks, you will notice that there are many places where there is room for homes, but no way to access them. Is it time we relaxed or changed our building ordinances to allow for through streets or cul-de-sacs? In many places two neigbors could each contribute a portion of their lot to make a good building MAY 25,2006 lot fronting the street then split the proceeds from the sale of the lot. I'm sure our city treasury could use the additional tax money new homes would bring and it would certainly improve our tourist image to see nice homes instead of back lots filled with weeds, junk, or old unused dilapidated buildings. (Just a thought!) Vermon & Catherine Barney enjoyed having their daughter, Lisa Johnson and her children come up from Kanab to spend the Mother's Day weekend with them. Not only did they enjoy having new voices throughout the house, but they also got some help with some projects they were working on. When I checked my E-mail this morning I found this note from Yanya Thomas. Her husband, Henry Thomas, had experienced chest pains so during Dr. Lappe's last visit, Henry had an overnight hospital stay for a heart check-up and was told that he had the heart of a 16 year old. (Tanya told him to get out of the bed and let her have it!) Henry has had no more chest pains and is now back at work. Tanya received a call from Diane Haney Anderson to let her know that Arlene Sandin Haney (Diane's mother) passed away last Friday after a short illness. A viewing and funeral was held in Payson, Utah on Tuesday, May 23rd and a graveside service at the Hatch, Utah cemetary the same day where she will be buried by the side of her husband, Max. Arlene is survived by three daughters, Diane, Sally and LaDean, but dnly Diane will be able to acompany her mother's body to Hatch since illness in their families will keep her other two daughters at home. Arlene was the last surviving Sandin and has lived in Payson with Diane and Greg for the past 32 years. Henry's & Tanya's daughter and son-in law, Lisa & Jeff Fureng have purchased and remodled the Jim Dodds home and are leasing the Big-4 resturant which will be opening on the 27th of May. They are moving here from Las Vegas where Jeff worked as a chef at the Sands and New Yorker hotels. Mike and April Thomas came to give Henry's shop a new paint job Sunday. The wind came up and blew most of the day and Henry said it looks like the paint was full of bugs and leaves but the shop looks better in spite of this. I apologize to Ryan for being so late in getting this in to him, but it seems that we have a flu bug going around town and for three days I could not sit at my computer long enough to write anything. Being a good husband, I shared this with Evalyn who is now experiencing the same thing. "If harmony-Is what you craveThen get a tuba-Burma Shave". (1937) |
