The Bobcat Girls came oh so close as they were edged out by 2 points by Rich High school. The Cats were led by senior Kyle Bateman who had firsts in the 110 meter high hurdles and the grueling 300 meter hurdles. Flying Freshman Trac Norris ran away with the 1600 meter title and U. Of U. bound Halie Sawyer closed out a brilliant high school athletic career with a blue ribbon performance in the discus. Both the boys and the girls 1600 meter relay teams came away with the blue. Girls team members were, Chelsea Birch, Hailey Orton, Krystal Taylor, and Bobbie Burningham, while Cameron Leach, Sam Adams,.Skye Marshall, and Josh Bateman ran for the boys. However anyone who has any knowledge of Track and Field are fully aware that it takes more than blue ribbon performances to win a Team Title. It takes those athletes who place 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th in their various events to .amass a winning team total. And the Bobcats had many, many of those individuals. Cameron Leach was 2nd in the 400 meters and 3rd in the discus. Halie Sawyer 2nd in the high jump, 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles, and 3rd in the 300 meter hurdles. Kyle Bateman was 2nd in the 800 meter run and 4th in the 400 meter dash. Shaela Eldridge placed 3rd in the discus and shot put. Bobbie Burningham had a 4th in the 800 meter run. Hailey Orton placed 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles and 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles. Heather Orton ran to a 3rd place finish in the tortuous 3200 meter run. The Medley Relay team of Alyssa Parkin, Lacey Rosser, Krystal Taylor, and Chelsea Birch placed 3rd. The list goes on and on and is too numerous to mention everyone who contributed, in this article. Earlier in the season the team of Skye Marshall, Trac Norris, Cameron Leach,'and Kyle Batemen, broke the school's Medley Relay and the 4x 100 relay records. Honors were bestowed on Hailey Sawyer and Kyle Bateman as the Bobcat's most Outstanding Athletes, and Shaela Eldridge and Trac Norris as the Most Dedicated Athletes. All in all the Bobcats had a great year with State Titles in Baseball, Girl's Basketball, and Boy's Track. There were also Region crowns in Baseball, Volleyball, Girl's X-Country, Girl's Basketball, Boy's and Girl's Track, Drama, and Debate. Add to that the great State Boy's basketball Title won by the Escalante Moquis and Bryce Valley High's competitive efforts in all competitions and Garfield County can stand up and say, "Hey!! We may be small but we'll take on anyone, large or small. Congratulations to all of thefinestudents and student athletes of Garfield County School District for an outstanding school year.
