Show Demonstration Kitchen Most of us have passed by the current demo area Climbing wall One of the most eagerly awaited components of the new Student Life and Wellness Center is the Climbing Wall. It will be located past the control desk on the 2nd floor of the SLWC. The Wall is open to UVU students, faculty and staff with a SLWC membership. Anyone with their own climbing gear can come on in and use their own gear, but the staff must be allowed to inspect the gear. If participants have an SLWC pass, they can use the gear that is provided. "I'm so excited about the climbing war said Natasha Griffin, a sophomore at UVU. "I'm going to spend a ton of time there." Those who are not connected with UVU as a student or staff, or who don't have a SLWC membership, can buy a day-pass for five dollars. Gear will also be available for use with harnesses at two dollars, shoes at four and the package running five dollars all together. The wall will be on a first come, first serve basis, just like any other climbing gyms. Those that can't walk right in will have to wait or come back later. Anyone who wishes to climb the wall will have to sign a waiver, sign that they agree to follow the rules and participate in a clinic of climbing basics or pass a belay check. Anyone under the age of 18 will have to have a parent or guardian sign the waiver with them, anyone younger then 16 will have to have an adult with them and those younger then 13 will not be able to belay. Groups will also be able to schedule times and passes ranging from $10 per person to $15 per person. in the student center across from the bookstore here on UVU campus. There is usually a small group of people huddled in a corner teaching us how to cook things like curry or easier dishes like French toast. With one of those bendy mirrors tilted at an angle so everyone can see, we crane our necks or sometimes just stop for a snack. The area is crowded at times and right along a busy walkway connecting many campus buildings. With the new Student Life and Wellness Center Demonstration Kitchen opening in mid April, the stakes are a little higher when it comes to cooking. Located on the 1st floor of the SLWC, the new kitchen will provide students with a better view and instruction of general cooking skills. Not only do they have all sorts of cooking gadgets on site but also a large stove and a much larger space for demos. The new kitchen will be a fun addition to the Student Center, making for a more versatile menu and instructions. Students will be able to enjoy an array of cooking classes and quick demonstrations in between classes. They plan on having cooking classes, free food samples and easy meal recipes, couples cooking for date night, cooking competitions, cooking camps, UVU staff and faculty retreats and UVU student group activities. Students will be able to enjoy these activities for little to no cost, depending on the activity. Stop by the Demonstration Kitchen after the opening of the new SLWC building to get a calendar of events or participate in activities. |
