The number of multicultural students attending UVSC has increased steadily over the past several years and has helped to improve the diversity of the school. There are many activities and programs for students who want to broaden their cultural awareness. You can join a club such as the Black Student Union, Latin American Club, Native Sun Club, or the Oceania Club (Polynesian Club). One event is the "Summer Survivor" program which is a 3 day Orientation program that is open to all incoming minority freshmen. It will be held on Wednesday, August 16 through Friday, August 18, this year. Other events coming up this Fall include the Polynesian Legacy Dance Company Performance & Luau in September, Latino Performance in October, Mr. & Miss UVSC International Pageant in November, and the Native American Pow Wow in November. The center also ' has many resources available for multicultural students such as an academic advisor, a small computer lab, and financial aid available to UVSC students who qualify as being multicultural and infinancialneed. Recently, Phi Beta Lambda was awarded fourth place at the National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, with their American Enterprise Project, one of the most notable Phi Beta Lambda projects in Utah County, which involved members of Phi Beta Lambda visiting Grandview Elementary in Provo and Sharon Elementary in Orem and teaching their students business and marketing skills. At the end of the project the members of Phi Beta Lambda helped these elementary school students setup small companies, gave them play money, taught them handson business skills such as supply-and-demand, and gave away prizes to top companies. Those students graduating with a degree in business management have various opportunities in private industry, government positions and entre- preneurship fields.
