INC From page 9 kind of bad luck all year. "I've been saying all along that this is what's happened to San Jose time and again," he said. "They are better than their [214] record. But that team has not hung it up. We're going to have our hands full on Thursday." USU trailed 58-54 with fewer than two minutes to play when David Pak made a layup and was fouled. He hit the extra free throw to cut the Aggie deficit to one. Cass Matheus was then fouled on USU's next two possesions and hit all four free-throw attempts to give the Aggies their threepoint win. Matheus said he feels like he redeemed himself from missing a free-throw attempt against Fresno State earlier this season1 that would have won the game. "After the Fresno game, I started working a little more," he said. "I relax and just shoot them." The Spartans started the game by opening up a nine-point lead. But the Aggies responded with a 20-2 run to give them a ninepoint lead with just fewer than three minutes to play in the half. Nate Harris led the Aggies 'Thanks goodness for : ChazSpicer in the first half." lyler Larson/tmlarson§<cusu.edu , NATE HARRIS GOES for a layup around a San Jose State player. i StewMonill Head Coach Tyler Larson/tmlarson@aMSu.edu UTAH STATE'S NATE HARRIS embraces teammate Cass Matheus after beating San jose State 61-58 in the Spectrum Saturday. It was the final regular season game in the Spectrum for the two seniors. with 19 points in his final regular season game in the Spectrum. Chaz Spicer also added 14 points — all in the first half. "Thank goodness for Chaz Spicer in the first half," Morrill said. *i should have given him some more minutes in the second." There were 9,4-28 fans that packed the Spectrum to see Harris, Matheus, Pak and Chris Huber play their final game. "The crowd helped a bunch," Morrill said. "They responded and came out for senior night and I appreciate that." Huber started the game in place of Jaycee Carroll. After the game, Harris waited on the court for an extra minute while Pak and Durrall Peterson jumped into the crowd. "I wasn't quite ready to go," Harris said. "I needed an extra couple seconds." The four seniors were honored just prior to the starting lineups before the game. Harris said that contributed to the Aggies' slow start and that Morrill told the team they wouldn't have the senior ceremony so close to tip-off in the future. "It took us about 10 minutes to realize we were playing a basketball game," he said. "If not for Chaz, we wouldn't have won."
