Show SALT LAKE IS RAISING THE BAR MARCH 24-25 JANET QUINNEY LAWSON BY AMANDA GOLD /STAFF WRITER PHOTO BY DANE GOODWIN inding a place to grab a great drink in Salt Lake can be a little difficult. I tested some of the local bars and found some good places to relax after a long week.Take a look at my picks for the best bars for college students in Salt Lake City. Gracie's If you are looking for a place to grab a bite to eat and a good drink, check out Gracie's. Conveniently located downtown at 326 South West Temple, this bar features two floors of music and three bars to choose from. Gracie's is a great choice during the warmer months and features an upper deck as well as a patio in the front. This place can get packed on weekends, so make sure you arrive early. Whiskey Street Known for its New York-like interior and delicious whiskey cocktails, Whiskey Street has to be one of my go-to bars in Salt Lake. The atmosphere is pleasant and sophisticated, plus the drinks are killer. Try out the Seelbach, which features Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Cointreau, Angostura, Peychaud's bitters, sparkling wine and a lemon peel. This delicious concoction is the perfect combination of ingredients and a musthave at the bar. Cheers to You Looking for more of a dive bar with cheap drinks? Check out Cheers to You, located on Main Street downtown. This smaller bar features inexpensive beers and cocktails while still maintaining a cool atmosphere. It also has themed nights, such as karaoke on Fridays. Just like Gracie's, Cheers to You gets crowded quickly, so if you are in the mood for a $3 shot, get there early! Keys on Main This bar has a more upscale vibe and features dueling piano performers. Keys on Main is the place to be if you want a more laid-back night out with good friends and good music. You can even suggest songs for the performers to play, but you can be outdone with tips by another person, so bring cash to make sure your song is played! 12 { THECHRONY I NEWS I OPINION I ARTS I SPORTS I WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2015 } Beer Bar The last bar on our college list is, of course, Beer Bar. This bar popped up in Spring of 2014 and has been doing amazing things to the Salt Lake bar scene since. Known for its numerous beers on tap, Beer Bar is a great place to go with friends and just hang out. They also have delicious fries, which come with distinctive dipping sauces to choose from. This bar is also connected to Bar X, which serves unique cocktails if beer isn't your thing. Whichever bar you decide to head to this weekend, make sure you stay safe and drink responsibly. Try new bars you've never thought of venturing into, and you never know what you'll discover. Salt Lake City is starting to have a lively nightlife, and you won't want to miss the next new thing that pops up. a.gold@chronicle.utah.edu @ChronyArts CAPITOL THEATER 41._::: :4000011°T.77"-ir 4111, -4 TICKETS ShenYun.com/SLC 888-633-6999 I 801-355-2787 I 888-974-3698 13 |
