Show DAILY UTAH CHRONICLE November 2010 RIVALRY but I was never a big BYU fan." Patti Bernabe, an undeclared freshman, has strong family connections to the U and thought it a natural choice for her. "I'm totally into (the rivalry)," she said. "My family is totally into it, and I've just been raised around the culture." However, Bernabe doesn't take it completely seriously. "It's entertaining, so of course we're going to do it," she said. 'And when stuff like Max Hall happens, it's just a way to make some extra money on T-shirts." For some out-of-state students, the rivalry can seem like just another clash between two schools. "It's just like in North Carolina, the rivalry between Chapel Hill and NC State," said Dan Morrison, a sophomore in business. Originally from upstate New York, Morrison transferred from North Caro- continued from Page 13 Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, grew up in Holladay. Although his family consists mostly of U supporters, his sister went to BYU and he has many friends from high school who attend the Y. "My sister (ended up) transferring (from the Y) and graduated from the U," he said. "I never disliked BYU, it was more that I didn't want to go there because of the aura." For students who grew up in the area, the rivalry is firmly rooted in their memories—and sometimes in their families. "I've always liked Utah," said Kirsten Merrett, a sophomore in biochemistry and pre-med. "My aunt graduated from the U, and my mom graduated from BYU, 15 lina State to the U when his brother encouraged him come to Salt Lake City. "It's pretty cool to see, though," Morrison said. "I'm looking forward to the game, and I hope Utah comes out on top." Analeigh Sanderson, a freshman in modern dance, came to the U from Minnesota. Although she enjoys the intense rivalry and the school spirit, she has also noticed that aside from athletics, students from both universities have the ability to be cordial and helpful to one another. "I didn't actually know BYU and Utah were rivals until I came out here," she said. "But I went to a conference last weekend, and some students from BYU made the effort to come and approach me, and I found it really cool that people were still available and willing to meet me despite our differences." c.mccormick@chronicle.utah.edu CLEAN-SHAVEN Odyssey Dance Theatre returns with its critically acclaimed and inspiring full-length production based on the classic holiday film! continued from Page 13 hygiene, and a bushy beard or mustache isn't as attractive, said Yara Abawi, a junior in electrical engineering. "The facial hair should match the style." Kara Nielsen, a senior in health promotion and education, said she prefers some scruff because it gives off a little bit of a lazy look. Facial hair is manly and more attractive, as long as the guy can rock it, she said. Facial hair can make a man look older and better, and if he trims it nicely then it looks sophisticated, said Dede Vilven, a senior in health promotion and education. "Guys should have fun with it and mix it up—try all sorts of styles," she said. "It's a good thing, and it keeps you warm in the winter," she said. Megan Muir, a senior in health promotion and education, likes facial hair, but enjoys a good mix between clean-shaven and facial hair. "I like having it unshaved for a few days, and then when they shave it's a nice little surprise," she said. "It's like, 'Oh, you look nice,'" she said. j.bennett@ chronicle.utah.edu _ - Directed Choreograph by Derry! Yeager - Original ,t,\ , Score by Sam Cardon "A Perfect Gift!...
