Show DAILY UTAH CHRONICLE Tuesday, September 7, 2010 9 BCS continued from Page 7 football field. Utah started its season with an overtime win against No. 15 Pitt on Thursday that sampled exactly what earned it the PacDo invite in the first place. BYU followed that by successfully breaking in two new quarterbacks and defeating upstart Washington, which many experts picked to waltz out of Provo with a win. TCU capped it all with a victory over No. 24 Oregon State, which is thought to have a shot at winning the Pac-io and gaining the Rose Bowl berth that accompanies it. There were some similarities in how each game was won. All came down to the final drive of the game. Utah, BYU and TCU Presented by the pallah Chronicle Ilk THE SEVENTEENTH ANNUAL WILLIAM R. AND ERLYN J. GOULD DISTINGUIS D LECTURE ON TECHNOLOGY AND THE QUALITY OF LIFE NEUROBOTICS: HUMAN-ROBOT INTERFACES more the merrier. Last weekend also showed that it will be the same threeteam race for the MWC title that everyone has grown accustomed to. TCU and Utah were predicted to finish at the top of the conference, but several people thought Air Force was poised to overtake BYU as the thirdplace team. However, the Cougars showed they aren't ready to be counted out yet, with a strong defensive showing Saturday in addition to proving that their two-quarterback system can work. That's just the way it should be in the last year of the "old" MWC: the "big three" battling it out for the conference title and beating down the door of the BCS in the meantime. b.brown@chronicle.utah.edu also stopped players who were thought to be in the thick of Heisman Trophy candidacy. Big-time wins over big-time programs. Just like old times. The wins are virtually meaningless for the MWC in its bid to earn automatic-qualifier status into the BCS, but it's still fun to lob one last grenade at the BCS, even if it's more for reminiscing than for any tangible gains. The impending move to the Pac-io should make throwing those grenades even sweeter for Utah. After this year, Utah will no longer don the underdog role that it has played so well. Instead of gunning for the big boys, Utah will be the one being gunned at. It will be fun to be the have-not one last time, and with TCU and BYU coming along for the ride, the RESTORING THE QUALITY OF LIFE THROUGH ENGINEERING 4p FEATURING GUEST LECTURER SCREEN GEMS. DR.
