Show The Ogden Valley News Volume XXIX Issue XIV Page 7 June 1, 2022 Primary Candidates — United States Senate Becky Edwards I love Utah and the people of our great state! My husband John and I grew up in Provo, and we have been blessed to call Davis County home for 28 years as we’ve raised our four children. Public service has always been important to me, and I was honored to serve District 20 as a Republican for ten years in the Utah State Legislature. During my time in the House of Representatives, I was regarded as Utah’s most effective lawmaker. While in the legislature, I tackled tough issues. I developed the commission on housing affordability, co-chaired the Women in the Economy Commission, led the legislative effort of the “Our Schools Now” initiative, and pioneered a telehealth pilot program that increased access to health care across the state. Today, Utah is at a crossroads. Between a growing population and a transforming economy, we are facing historic challenges. A global pandemic, affordable housing crisis, inflation, severe drought, and political division—these issues are impacting Utahns at every junction, but Washington politicians have put them on the backburner. In 2022, we have the opportunity to elect a new senator, one with a proven track record of working hard for families and businesses, keeping their word, and prioritizing values of respect, honesty, civility, and faith for the people of Utah. That is why I’m running for the U.S. Senate. Too many politicians have stopped listening. They’ve lost touch with Utah families and are more concerned with their political future than your family’s future. But I am here to bring better leadership, better politics, and better solutions to the U.S. Senate. I want to be the next U.S. Senator from Utah to listen and do the hard work required to serve you best—not to grandstand and advance my career in Washington. I invite you to join me in this vision, and I humbly ask for your support and vote. Mike Lee Senator Mike Lee has spent his career defending the liberties of Americans and advocating for America’s founding constitutional principles. Senator Lee has fought for policies that have produced real results for Utahns. He mobilized U.S. Senators to enact the USA Freedom Act, which protects Americans’ rights against the NSA’s collection of private citizen information. In 2017, he championed the effort to double the tax credit for each child from $1,000 to $2,000. He has also led reforms on federal prisons and sentencing laws to maintain public safety. Mike and his wife, Sharon, have three children and live in Provo, Utah. Email: diana@leeforsenate.com Website: leeforsenate.com/ Ally Isom did not submit information for this publication. Primary Candidates — Weber County Clerk/Auditor Ricky Hatch Securing Elections - Last year, as claims of election fraud escalated across the country, Ricky did something about it. He organized a group of election experts, diagrammed the entire election process, identified key risks and related safeguards, and recommended areas of improvement. This process helped create House Bill 313, which he championed, and which just became law, strengthening election security throughout the state. Weber County literally leads the nation in election security and integrity, as evidenced by several national awards and the fact that Ricky has been invited to testify before Congress twice as an election expert. You would be hard-pressed to find someone more qualified, experienced, and committed to making sure that your vote is safe, secure, and accurately counted. Saving Taxpayer Dollars - Ricky is a financial watchdog, always looking for ways to save taxpayer dollars. His successes so far include: • Altered the county employee benefits program, saving $23M over the next ten years. • Paid off debt early, saving over $2M in interest. • Established a fraud hotline so citizens and county employees can anonymously report fraud, waste, or abuse. • Ricky personally designed a comprehensive internal audit program, which was showcased to over 700 governmental finance experts at a national conference. Ricky has been a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) for 25 years. In 2020, he was appointed to represent the nation’s 3,069 counties on the Governmental Accounting Standards Advisory Committee, which helps establish accounting standards for all governments across the country. Serving Citizens - Ricky and his team constantly strive to improve services for Weber County Citizens: • They conduct monthly public election integrity tours so citizens can learn more about the process and why the Weber County Elections office is a model for the nation. • The county’s budget and financial reports are now easier to access and understand. • You can now schedule an appointment for a marriage license or passport online, increasing accuracy and reducing wait time. • You can also appeal your property value online instead of coming to the office in person to file a paper copy. Ricky’s team believes in continuous improvement and providing world-class service to you and your family. They’re always working to do things better, faster, and cheaper and are always happy to hear your ideas. “Public office isn’t about getting accolades, it’s about serving you with integrity and efficiency. Ricky Hatch will continue his proven commitment to serve you.” Toby Mileski • Married 31 years with two children (both married) • Successful business owner of four small businesses in Weber County • Real property owner – home/rentals/ business properties • Served as mayor of Pleasant View and a member of the Pleasant View City Council. During that term we solved the culinary water property to lift the building moratorium. • While Mayor, I served as Chairman of the Weber 911 Dispatch and Emergency Services District where I/we was/were successful in bringing Morgan County up to what Weber County taxpayers are paying for 911 Emergency Service to end the Weber County subsidy of Morgan County. I can assure you that when I am elected, I will work diligently to save you, the taxpayer, money; I will not waste your money. I will secure our elections along with your ballot! I am not looking for a job or a retirement plan like others; I see an opportunity to help move this county forward. |
