Show Page 4 The Ogden Valley News Volume XXIX Issue X April 1, 2022 Eccles Art Center Announce the Work of Secondary Ogden City School Students Selected artwork created by the secondary students of Ogden City and Weber County School District will be featured at the Eccles Art Center, 2580 Jefferson Ave., Ogden in the main gallery during April 2022. The work of Ogden City School’s secondary students will be on exhibit March 27 through April 11, with the work of the Weber School secondary students on exhibit April 13 through 30, 2022. A reception in association with Ogden’s First Friday Art Stroll is scheduled for Friday, April 1, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Carriage House Gallery will exhibit the accepted works for “the Frame Your Pet” Competition. The Frame Your Pet Competition is open to resident Utah visual artists. Works included in the exhibit must be original and not larger than 20” x 20” framed. As this is a juried/judge competition, awards will be posted during the April 1, 2022 artist’s reception. A monetary award will be presented to first, second, and third places as well as five honorable mentions. Works included in Carriage House Gallery competitions must be priced and available to be purchased. The Eccles Art Center has joined the at home/hybrid movement with the inclusion of on-line slide presentations of many of our exhibits and competitions. After April 3, 2022, visit the center’s website ogden4arts.org to review a slide presentation of the “Frame Your Pet” Competition. The staff of the Eccles Community Art Center invites you to visit these exhibits throughout the month of April. OPPA Presents The Diary of Anne Frank OPPA!’s production of The Diary of Anne Frank opens Friday, March 18. Join us to celebrate Women’s History Month as we honor the story of Anne Frank told though this haunting production of resilience and spirt produced in an intimate setting on the On Pitch Performing Arts main theater stage. Drawing from previously unpublished parts of Anne Frank’s reallife diary, the audience will experience Anne in a way that breathes life into this passionate, complex young woman. “This isn’t just a play about war, this is a glimpse into real people’s lives,” says Katie Plott, show Director. “There are funny moments, beautiful moments, and hopeful moments. This cast has worked so hard to give such depth and vulnerability to these characters. I’m so thankful for this opportunity because it has been a great learning experience and an absolute joy to direct them.” The Diary of Anne Frank runs March 18 thru April 9. In honor of Women’s History Month, Amy has dropped off an eclectic 45-piece collection of female inspired works and personal paintings that reflect her creativity. Madeleine is beautiful, intelligent, and solidly upper-class, but the Astors are in a league apart. Despite their twenty-nineyear age difference, and the scandal of Jack’s recent divorce, Madeleine falls headlong into love. The newly expecting couple plans to return home from their honeymoon aboard an opulent new ocean liner, the RMS Titanic. Featured Artists @ the Lorna Wattis Swanson Gallery – Elena Lawrence’s Encaustic & Metal Provided by Phillips Gallery - Elena Lawrence is a multifaceted artist who lives in Bountiful, Utah. A native of Salt Lake City, her artwork stems from her memories of childhood, many travels, and love of nature. Art is a lifelong pursuit of Lawrence’s, encouraged both during her upbringing as well as by her supportive husband. Lawrence received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Utah in 2017, and since then has exhibited at the Sugarhouse Art Walk, art festivals, and galleries throughout northern Utah. Her exhibit at the Weber County Library Ogden Valley Branch features works encaustic (hot wax) paintings fused with found metals. Display Case: Earl Talbot’s Handcrafted Leather - Earl Talbot began practicing his craft at eight years old, with his first project being a wallet he made for his dad while in Cub Scouts. Talbot works all his projects by hand utilizing a double-needle (saddle stitch) technique to enhance his designs with decorative stitching, using best grades of leather sourced from vendors in the United States. Talbot uses his craft to create unique gifts and items that are made to last a lifetime. H e states, “A few years ago, I tangled with the big ‘C,’ and like many, found myself with a lot of time to reflect… I realized that with the time I have left on this earth, I want to do what makes me happy— spending Earl Talbot time with my wife and my family and doing things I love.
