Show Take A Look At Net Rate on Insurance CLOSING QUOTATIONS Millions of you are using life insurance today as a means of saving and as a result, you are unwittingly penalizing yourself by accepting interest rates far INI1111111111111101110111111111 below the levels you could earn if you invested your money in stocks, corpo- , rate bonds, real estate. A full $8.5 billion of the $14.3 billion paid out in total life insurance benefits last year represented "living elliollitlimmilimilmnit benefits"used as retirement income or for sending children to college or representing poli- cies simply cashed in, etc. Less than half was paid in death benefits. The "net rate of intrest earned on invested funds" of U.S. life insurance companies in 1968 was a mere 4.94 per cent before federal income taxesjust a tiny bit more than the dollar's loss in buying power due to 'price increases. And policyholders by no means enjoyed. this rate of return on the funds they were investing in the form of premiums. Between 16 and 18 per cent of the out-g- o of life insurance companies is for overhead items. . If you, the family wishing to build up a retirement nestegg, switched every penny you are now paying in n stocks or mulife insurance premiums into fol- -, '.."61 tual fund shares or even size of the bonds, your nestegg probably would grow to several times the value of ' . the life insurance coverage you would accumulate over your years. And I'm not even mentioning Ms investments which might ' higher-ris- k swell at a far faster rate. I Why, then, do nine out of 10 U.S. , , families and seven out of 10 individuals in this country have life insurance? Why L''' Miss Porte; is this so especially in view of the dra- matic rise in Social Security survivors' benefit levels, the rapid expansion of private company pension coverage, the greatly increased amounts of savings by individual Americans? At your death, processing of your estate may take months or years before the proceeds can be distributed. The value of your life insurance, though, becomes available immediately to your beneficiaries often avoiding the need for families upon your death to dispose of such assets as stocks, real estate or art objects under unfavorable market conditions in order to pay federal taxes. Finally, many families find that the only way they can be disciplined into saving money at all is through regular forced payments of life insurance premiums. Specifically: With life insurance you can create by just the stroke of a pen an "instant estate" as protection for your family. You need not wait years to accumulate it yourself. Death payments from life insurance, under almost all circumstances, are not subject to federal income taxes. Also tax-fre- e are the increases in the cash value of your policy contributed from the company's earnings as long as you keep your policy in force. No matter how bad your credit rating, you are guaranteed the right to use the cash value of your policy as collateral for a relatively low interest loan from your insurance company. And you can take as long as you like to repay this inexpensive loan. i.', 2714 283a 171- 4- 5034 223 2914 1057 BangrP .60g Bath Indust BeatFoods 1 Answers Vital Concern , 40 18 38 31 1.20 .40 1.60 40 14 7334-- 114 shares Isms 1 , , 127 57 42 297 277 30 96 186 49 84 487 45 126 324 Asso Trn AtiRich Atlas Corp AvcoCp 1.20 Avnetino .40 Rol A 2'6,9 Amer Motor Am NtGas 2 APhoto .09b A Smelt 1.90 Am Stand 1 IA Sugar 1.60 lAmT&T 2.40 Am Zinc Co 1Ametek .60 Co ;Ampex Anacond 214 ArmcoS ISO Arms Ck .80 ,,, :, 73 264 66 45 94 132 471- 7- '314 17'4 273- 42814 1714 4934 211- 429 373- 4- 2714 Ws 13 1.90 AMetCI well-chose- t- I's 1.10 .10b 7534 1834 4031 NEW YORK (UPI) The stock market turned lower Monday after a string of five advances.
