ST. LOUIS: Bishop Elected PET President Patriarch Joseph Arthur Horne, who served for 22 years as patriarch of the North Seattle Stake, died at Seattle recently at the age of 87. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah Boyd F. Schenk, who began his career years ago selling ice cream, has been elected president and chief executive officer of PET, Inc. here. Bishop of St. Louis Third Ward, St. Louis Stake, Mr. Schenk has the fastest achievement recorded at PET. He is credited with having built the frozen food business for PET from a small operation into one of the companys four largest divisions. He was named corporate vice president in 1964 and since April of 1968 has been executive vice president of operations. Mr. Schenk originally planned to become a physician, but his education was interrupted by a tour of duty in World War II. He is father of five and 22 on March 23, 1881. During his tenure as patriarch he gave 2,859 patriarchal blessings. In addition to his calling as patriarch Mr. Horne had served twice as a Mr. Horne a councilor, high counselor on a bishopric, ward clerk and stake Sunday School Superintendent. grandfather of three. SALT LAKE CITY: Matron SALT LAKE CITY: New Counselor In Stake Honored For Long Service Ida Whittaker Taylor, William Mack Hardy, bishop of the Rose Park Fifth Ward for the past 3 '4 years, was named second counselor in the Rose Park North Stake Presidency this week. The new counselor is a former member of the Rose Park Stake and Rose Park North Stake High Councils. He succeeds former second counselor Dan P. Campbell who was sustained as first counselor in the stake presidency. The former first counselor, William G. McFarland, who had served since the stake was organized in November, 1965, has moved from the stake. President of the stake is Joseph Lund-stroThe change in presidency was affected by Elder Loren C. Dunn of the First Council of the Seventy. President Hardy is a dentist. Married to the former Patsy Eason, the Hardys have two daughters. ONTARIO: Mission Headquarters Moved Pres. Reid E. Yorgason, former Brigham Young University student, has been named Soldier of the Month for the First Lo- gistical Command in Vietnam. Notification was made by Brig. Gen. James W. Gunn in letcongratulatory ters to Spec. 5 parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Gayle Y o rgason, Provo, and his wife, Mrs. M a r g aret Yates Yorgason, Salt Lake expenses out of their own funds. The dub presented a program of singing and dancing of the type done by the natives of the South Pacific. Singers and dancers of the club are coached by Fcalima Hokum of Samoa, who also is the club president. Aiding Foalima are Holomia Chase and Linda McGee. The patients at the hospital cheered and expressed thanks to the young people for the program given at the state hospital. The dub will present a program to inmates at Utah State Prison on April 29. The new home will be located at 200 Main Street South with offices at 34 Queen Street West. Mr. Yorgason, who has filled a mission to Florida, was c:ted for demonstrating superior knowledge of current events, chain of command information, organization and history of the Army. , . . The generals letter also noted that Mr. Yorgasons appearance, military bearing and ability to express himself exemplify the outstanding qualities sought in our soldier of today. Mr. Yorgason entered active duty when the Tleasant Grove Reserve unit was called into service in the spring of 1968. The unit left for Vietnam last September. 81, recently was given recognition at the Monument Park Third Ward for 69 years of continuous service to the Primary Association. She was presented an award signed by Mrs. LaVern W. Parmley, general president of the Primary Association. Mrs. Taylor is presently the Primary organist in the Monument Park Third ward. She and her husband, J. Marlow Taylor recently moved to Salt Lake City from Green River, Wyo., where Mr. Taylor was in the dairy business and patriarch of Lyman Stake. NORWAY: Leader Succeeds With Youth g Johnny Petersen is a branch president vrSo knows how to succeed with youth. When he isnt leading a Norwegian chances are hes planning another activity which brings out the young people in droves. "They sense his love and concern and respond with eagerness and enthusiasm, said Leo M. Jacobsen, mission president. For example, Mr. Petersen recently needed leaders for his Primary but could find no adults who would accept the position. So he asked two teen-ag- e girls to take the job. Now the Primary is functioning well, and its two young leaders ha'Bf attended district Primary meetings and met with Primary general board representatives in Oslo. Under Mr. Petersens direction, the Primary made a movie, their version of a cowboy and Indian film. Scoville . . . former bishop CALIFORNIA: Stake Aide Appointed Judge Judge Harmon G. Scoville, first counsein presidency of Garden Grove Stake here, has been appointed superior court judge for Orange County by Gov. Ronald Reagan. The Ogden, Utah native has been bishop of the Garden Grove (Calif.) Ward and a seminary teacher. He was graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles and received his law degree from Stanford University. In addition to his law practice, Judge Scoville holds many civic positions, including membership on the Executive Board, Boy Scouts of America, Orange Empire lor SALT LAKE CITY: Program Presented At Hospital New Canadian Mission home at 200 Main St., Brampton, Ont. Ijfe for the patients at Utah State Hospital at Provo was made just a little brighter recently by members of the Polynesian Club of LDS Business College in Salt Lake City. The Polynesian Club was formed a little more than a year ago to bring about a cultural exchange between the Polynesian students and others on the business college campus.
