Show 12D Zion National Park Its Incomparable Cliffs so sheer and high they overpower the senses. Gorges so deep and narrow they defy the imagination. Colors so brilliant, and others so exquisite, they are almost painful to behold. Natural forms so unique in design, so tremendous in size, they put to shame the works of man. Zion National Park is all these things and more. In truth it is incomparable, for it stands alone in its uniqueness. In Zion the combined erosive fv jiV. The main forks of the Virgin River have sliced their channels far into the ear Ji, leaving immense vertical cliffs on either side, and smaller side streams ave cut the plateaus into huge sections. Still smaller streams have joined with frost, rain, roots, underground water, and chemicals to hold, carve and chisel d cliff-edge- d i , ' ' ' ,, all conthese stately forms ceived on such a grand s le that no one can comprehend their physical enormity in a short time. ZION CANYON Zion Canyon, the main gorge of Virgin River, is the best known section of the park. Here is West Temple, 4,000-fomonarch of the park, its sheer 3, 000-fo- precipice making it one of the most imposing sandstone monoliths in the world. Here, too, are East Temple, Great White Throne, Three Patriarchs, Temple of Sinawava and Towers of the Virgin, so KOLOB CANYONS Zion Parks ACCOMMODATIONS northwest Park is open 1 11 year for highway travel. Winter months are especially scenic. Housing, motor tours, horses and eating facilities are available from May to September within the park. Motels and restaurants Zion ex- tremity, the Kolob Canyons section, incorporates a wilderness of red gorges, timbered mesas and grand temples that used to be almost inaccessible. Now this region can be entered on a new paved road leading from Interstate Highway 15 south of Cedar City. At Temple of Sinawava (pictured at left) Zion Canyon pinches down to the famous chasm Narrows, a thousand-foo- t where the almost vertical walls are only a few yards apart. TRAILS Numerous improved trails lead into the back country, to spectacular overlook points, and to other points of interest. Visitors should allow time to hike some of these trais, which offer delights not available to highway sightseers. - in year-aroun- d Springdale near the park entrance.
