Show Skaters Find Purpose In Life PROVO, UTAH Two former Olympic speed skaters, who felt they were just floating with life before they joined the Church, now have a purpose and direction to their lives through the Gospel. Barbara Lockhart, who joined the Church in September, 1963, and Jeanne Ashworth, who was baptized last December, said since becoming members they have learned "everything has a purpose. For years, said Barbara, I went to other churches, but I couldn't find God in church. However, I could not come to grips that there was no God. Since joining the Church, I have found stability and direction that I couldn't find anywhere else. Moie and more each day, I realize how important the Church is in my life, she said. Both Barbara, who is from Park Ridge, HI., and Jeanne, from Lake Placid, N.Y., are seeking graduate degrees from Brigham Young University. I came out last spring to look around, explained Jeanne, who received her bachelor's degree from Tufts University near Boston. The people heated me so wonderfully that I couldnt believe it. I asked myself, What kind of people would take in strangprs and make them feel so welcomed? Although she had previously hern acquainted with various aspects ' of the Church and had told others about it (Barbara said she was the best missionary around), it wasnt until her visit to Provo that she had the opportunity to observe so many members. Barbara, who received her bachelor and masters degrees from Michigan State University, wanted to be near the Church as she pursued her doctorate. She recalled that before she joined the Church she wanted to come West She said inasmuch as she was going to be around she should know something Mormons, about their beliefs, so site had the missionaries give her the discussions. tion. 1 knew.after tlie third discussion that I The two ice skaters have been friends ' wanted to join the Church, she said.
