McKay Visits Wales President David O. McKay highlighted a trip to England, Scotland and Wales with a visit to his mother's birthplace in Merthyr-Tydfi- l, South Wales. The dale was March 2, 1961. Although originally planned as a simple service, 250 people gathered to see President McKay unveil a plaque placed on the side of the old home where his mother, Jennette Evelyn Evans, was born in August, 1850. He read a poem to his mother and declared himself "one who in childhood and youth gave you (his mother) greatest cause for worry and anxiety. After President McKay unveiled the plaque, a dedicatory prayer was offered by President Hugh B. Brown, then a member of the Council of the Twelve.
