Show USU To Honor 2 Leaders Condie To Get Degree At Taggart Inaugural LOGAN The inauguration of Dr. Glen L. Taggart as president of Utah Slate University March 7 will also be an important event for Richard P. Condie, Tabernacle Choir director. Mr. Condie will direct the choir in the inaugural concert and then receive an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from the USU board of trustees. ' It will be the second honorary degree from Utah colleges for Dr. Condie who was awarded an honorary doctor of music degree from Brigham Young University in 1963. y The choirs concert is the final event of a Inaugural observance held in connection with Founders Week at USU. two-da- Dr. Taggart will be formally inaugurated in a program March 7 at 10 a.m. Guest speaker will be Dr. John A. Hannah, newly designated administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and president of Michigan State University few the past 28 years. Dr. Taggart, the 11th president of Utah State, has also worked at the Michigan college. Since 1956, he has been dean of the schools International Studies and Programs. Except for two years from 1964 to 1966, when Dr. Taggart helped establish and was president of the University of Nigeria, he has remained with Michigan State. A native of Lewiston, Cache County, Dr. Taggart graduated from Utah State University after serving a mission to Czechoslovakia. Since then, both have worked in various Church areas. At the time of his appointment to USU, Dr. Taggart was a member of the Lansing Stake high I had a hunch I might get a whack at the choir, assistant council and also teaching a Sunday School class. The Church and affiliated groups have been awarded six Freedoms Foundation medals at recent ceremonies here. One of these, a George Washington Honor Medal, was given the Cnuich for flagpole and four stone placing a panels with inscriptions pertaining to government, liberty and the law on Temple Square. Pres. N. Eldon Tanner or the First Presidency was a guest here to accept the medal along with another presented to the special affairs division of the Church-owne- d Bonneville International Corp. for producing a patriotic television program, America. America, ' Arch L. Madsen, Bonneville president, was also here to receive the encased George Washington Honor medal. The Independence Day musical tribute featuring the Tabernacle Choir w as televised July 4 Channel 5 and KBYU-TV- , on KSL-TChannel 11. These two stations were also presented George Washington Medals for another program, This Is My Country." Other Freedoms Foundation awards went to Bountiful Stake for a pageant, This Is My Country. It received $100 and a George Washington Honor Medal in the community programs category. Brigham Young University was given another George Washington Med$l in tire college campus programs category, and KSL-TMidwas recognized for its day program. 100-fo- President N.
